My 2007 RRS TDV8 is presently running on 275/40/20 but I want to replace 20" wheels and tyres. Lots of sets on Fleabay shod with 255/55/20, will they work ok on my car ? Understand they be narrower and taller, but the items I'm looking at are much more plentiful than 275's ...

255/55/20 fit fine on the L320.

Got them on mine as well, no issues at all. Just better over the potholes and no chance of curbing the alloys. MY12 RRS HSE

Robin's cautionary warnings may need to be observed changing wheels & tyres

Stick with your own wheels and just get new tyres, 255/55 is about +30mm on your radius/height

Its always puzzled me why my cruise control has to be set at 73mph to do an actual 70mph on the road (and a similar discrepancy for other speeds). Could it be that with a slightly bigger diameter using 255 55 20s the cruise control setting will align with the speed??? Slightly - sorry Robin

Your speedo reads the speed by checking how fast your wheels are turning. So if you put bigger wheel, with the same amount of wheel turns, you will be doing longer distance so driving faster. And 255/55R20 tyres have bigger diameter than 275/40R20, hence why there is a difference.

255/55R20 fill the arches better and ride is more comfortable. However I think you should inform your insurance company about the change as even if they fit, this is standard size for L494 but not L320.

I'm putting 255 55 20 at on my spare wheels for winter insurance company didn't want to know tyresxare higher speed rated than the car is so no issue but different companies different rules always good to check just incase.

My cruise control is the same have to set slightly higher to get actual required speed, can't remember if it's always been like it or just since changed wheel/tyre size , when speedo reads about seventy according to tomtom navigation etc. so just put it down to built in tolerances same as the speedo which can read slightly fast but not slow, or I think that's how it used to be as a legal/use and construction requirement in day's of old.
