Insurance

Been getting crazy prices from the compare sites and the few companies willing to consider quote - loads just said NO Shocked

Currently paying £500 for 327bhp Mazda PHEV and been quoted £2500-5500 Big Cry

Lr quoted £327 pm then said £177 with discount in new RRS - wouldn’t insure a 6 months old approved used autobiography Thud

Finally got a quote for £1130 through MSE website which I can live with but one insurer said 100 pw being stolen Evil or Very Mad

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance/ Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I think the LR insurance was set up to try to cover those buying new vehicles that were not being covered by the usual insurers at the time. One issue is that the usual insurers were using data for previous versions of LRs and just blanket saying "they all get nicked". LR have improved the security and are now trying to get the insurers to take account of the newer security (which, it seems, is working). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

My salesman was telling me that until the war stops and the sanctions are lifted against Russia then this issue won’t go away, that’s where most of the stolen full fats and sports are heading either as complete cars or parts.

These guys don’t wait for anything!

Muddy,

Re:- theft. Simple - fit a GHOST-2.

£499 fitted , no subscription, cleared by an app on your phone or a personal PIN you can change.

I have one on my L461 - operates on the gearbox so “remote start” still works but try and select a gear without clearing it and the engine dies and won’t re-start!

My understanding was that the new ones were hardly getting stolen now due to the UWB and security updates? I noticed when I was insurance shopping that the difference in quotes between a 2yr old car and a new one was remarkable. New ones being significantly less.

The issue with previous models may have been mitigated with updates, but unfortunately the stats are the stats on those years and insurers will quote accordingly until that changes.

Can this be dealer fitted - I’m wary of buying and getting anything third party done that affects warranty - I remember a member on DiscoSport having something fitted and canbus issues Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

NFU 1st said I needed a faraday cage for key which LR say I don’t then said only insuring them over 5 years old which are the worst for security from what I’ve read Rolling Eyes

Never seen such crazy quotes or so many refuse to quote on a vehicle and I had a new Astra GTE at 20 years old 🤣 Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy,

Not unless the Dealer is an Autowatch outlet.

Mine was done in my drive in a couple of hours.

I used https://www.trackershop-uk.com they have done loads, they did it the day after I collected my AB.

The engineer was really diligent and you can’t tell it’s fitted - I’m a Chartered Electronics engineer so I know good work when I see it.

My dealer knows it’s fitted - it’s currently at the dealers for the SOTA issue and I put the GHOST into service mode when I dropped it off this morning.

Sometimes the firm above do 10% off so it’s £450 fitted! Very Happy

Cheers Scrumps Bow down

I asked dealer and they don’t offer it - sure LR dealers used to fit a security system which needed a card in your wallet - possibly autowatch iirc Confused

Will need to think about what I should do - while it’s under warranty I’m wary of anything that could be used to wriggle out of responsibility Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
