Cat removal 2007 tdv6

What symptoms do you get if the cat has been removed/bashed out? Trying to work out a slight fuelly smell and light smoke on cold start. When it’s warm there is zero issue and as my other post, injectors etc have all been out and tested ok. Does the cat give a smell when hot?

I would be looking at glow plugs - typical symptoms of failure leading to unburnt fuel and smoke on start. 07MY RRS TDV6

Defo fuel as it smells of diesel. 6 new glow plugs fitted recently. When coolant gets to 30 it’s perfect and a couple of revs clears smoke. I feel it’s injectors but they have just been tested as ok, but I know that’s not totally accurate.

You can reduce the fuel on start up by fooling the computer its hotter than it actually is . 220K ohms across the eng temp sensor will reduce the fuel but not affect the temp gauge.
Below zero deg C the fuel is increased dramatically and this chokes the engine ..hence the often seen hot water trick....mine is a 2.7 and it works fine in winter with only 2 plugs. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Yea I do that on my d3 with the resistor on a switch. Had a proper look today and after a run smelt diesel. Removed engine cover and found several high pressure pipe unions wet and on the ns fuel running onto turbo and exhaust manifold! Rang garage who have just done the injectors as I wanted the new owner to have it right and I just didn’t have time. Answer was see if they’ll tighten! Found several unions into injectors not fully tight into injectors, 2 high pressure pipes to injectors not fully tight on ns along with them slightly loose onto the rail not impressed so a call tomorrow will be made with a request to refund some of the bill. The smoke has reduced in startup and when it does a small blip in the throttle clears it. It’s less than my own d3!
