Is this the inlet plenum for a TDV8? If so, that's the device that deactivates one of the inlet ports to give better low end performance. It's also connected to a pipe that runs to the filter box.

Yep - 3.6 TDV8 and is the same part you’ve identified. Looks purely mechanical to me, so wouldn’t envisage a good cleaning would do any harm, especially as it’ll get fully lubricated within about 5 mins if driving.

This actuator is connected to a butterfly valve type flap that is usually open ie left\right in your photo but the space in the manifold to get it out is a slot that goes 90deg to that. You need to push the vacuum actuator in to close the flap so it aligns with the slot hole in the manifold so you can wriggle and lift out actuator and arm and valve all at once (after screws have been remove of course) Pete

Actually, this bit controls balance between left and right intake manifolds (item2). The port deactivation actuators look similar but are at the rear end of each intake manifold thing (item7). ![]() 2008 L320 TDV8 2022 Hilux Rugged-X |

Ah, yes, you're right now I've looked at it again. Posted in haste originally. ![]() ![]() ![]() 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Had a go at this today, albeit briefly. Didn’t manage to get it out. I think it’s a bit like picking a lock, in that the flap needs to align exactly with the slot.
