Depends on what you drag it across. I’ve run mine over hard dirt, grass, mud and snow with no ill effects. I haven’t run across any sharp shale that could cut or puncture the tire. Mind you I’ve only had it make contact in normal height, not in off road height.

Haven't had a problem so far. You can buy a plate that stops the spare from being stolen, and I have one of those fitted, but it doesn't cover the tyre. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

On LR time I saw them take the wheel off a D5 and it had a big dished plate covering he whole wheel.
