Hi all,

Been the (almost) proud owner of my first Range Rover for a couple of months now.
I’ve had a niggling issue since I bought the car, struggling to diagnose it and I’m hoping you can share some of your hard-earned wisdom

Car has 65k miles on it and seems to have been well looked after, and is completely stock BUT…
There’s an intermittent shake/wobble through the steering wheel at 70mph. Sometimes it’s smooth as glass, others the steering wheel is just a blur and my hands go numb!

Road surface doesn’t seem to have any impact on the severity of the wobble. It’s more noticeable though on smoother roads.

- First put this down to wheel balance…rebalanced (a few times) - didn’t work
- Tyres, Kuhmo 275/40/r20 summer tyres replaced with Michelin 275/45/r20‘s - comfier generally…but didn’t work
- Road force balancing on all four wheels + a hunter alignment (car pulls left now)
- Took it to an indie, said bushings/tie rods etc look fine, no issues with struts. suggested new front passenger side wheel bearing & drive shaft - didn’t work
- New front discs & pads - didn’t work
- LCA‘s we’re supposedly replaced 20k miles ago. Just have an invoice as proof.

Starting to lose patience, time & money with this car and I’m too far in to just get rid.
Any advice would really be appreciated.

Maybe centre prop shaft/bearing????
I had something similar on my previous 2.7TDV6 and got it changed, sorted the problem 2015 L494 SDV6 3.0 HSE Dynamic

I‘ll have the prop shaft bearing checked for play.

To be honest with it being through the steering wheel I’ve been focusing on the front end.
Possibly a case of tunnel vision on my part 2013 L320 3.0 SDV6

I recently had similar problems on a new to me 2012 L320. Brake wobble and steering wobble at most speeds, worse around left handers.

The main culprit was the sliding steering column between rack and wheel, the sliding joint had a good amount of play that by the time it made its way to steering wheel was perhaps 15mm.

The column was easy enough to change, took approx. 2hrs with basic tools and axle stands. However it did need plugging into diagnostics to reset steering angle sensor after wheel alignment etc.

Easy enough to check, drop the belly pan, have someone wobble the steering wheel gently and check for play where it enters the rack.

I've got it booked in with another Indie on the 9th... No facilities for much DIY'ing at home.
Did a slow speed sudden brake test yesterday, about 1 in every 3 attempts at the test I got quite a loud clunk/knock from the front end. Makes me think it could be as simple as front end bushings/ball joints etc?
