Hi there, tried to open the tailgate earlier today and rather than make one click, it made five or six in very rapid time. When I then tried to close again, it first sounded like the soft close worked. But then a second or two later it reversed. The tailgate stayed down (dosn't attempt to move), but it is open. The dashboard shows it as well.

This - as others have pointed out correctly - prevents the car being locked, and I had to drive it with the tailgate open and rattling to get home.

If i use the boot release button on the dashboard, I hear the same rapid firing of the boot release button.

For nearly a year now the boot will sometimes only open partially. It is fine most of the time, but every so often it will open only 20% of the way. Also, and again this is intermittent, the boot close button on the base of the tailgate will sometimes not respond.

Are these linked, and is the first problem as simple as replacing the boot release button or is there something else going on?

Understood! It's a 2011 RRS 3.0 SDV6, the facelifted model. It has a fixed tailgate.
