Mercedes Benz World _ Brooklands

The family VA went to the Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands today. What a fantastic set up. I was driven in a ML on their off road course, fairly tame stuff and the RRS would eat it for breakfast, the ML is ok but they are not too keen to really test their cars! The fun part was being driven around the track and onto the skid areas. Good fun and a good day out. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Rimini Red

Gentlemen,
Mercedes World, Brooklands – a good thing – no arguments.
ML (new shape) better than one might expect given the last fiasco, but our road trip around Europe and the northern part of Africa comprised my RRS, an ML350 and a Cayenne Turbo S.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tows out of sand, gravel and goo.

RRS 0

Cayenne 3

ML >20
After that number it stopped being funny and started to irritate – pretty car but rather poor in a skin bag containing spheres type way off any sort of tarmac road.

Rattles after nearly 18k road trip.

RRS all but isofix seat (not LR product) cured at service

Cayenne 0

ML approx 3 bazzillion and stuff fell off - like the grill on a spanish motorway causing a puncture!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moral of story, ML man has been back 5 days and now has an RRS 11 XFR

08 RRS TDV8 HSE with the good bits taken off the first RRS

05 RR Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red (Rimini Brown at events), Stormer wheels (original 19's for events), PTI, towpack. TV tuner (now driven by an employee)

1923 Ford Model T (serious ground clearance)

FFRR TDV8 Vogue my07 (wife won't let me use it in case I go to Salisbury with VA in it)

plus some other bits n' pieces

They are cheap compared to RRS' though for a reason..

Fully loaded 320 CDI's being given away on 06 plates for £37k with less then 12k on the clock..

Just in the process of buying two for clients.. despite me pushing them towards RRS', they will never put them off road, and will never ever take them to the kinds of conditions described above, as with majority of their drivers... so guess most wouldn't beable to relate....

Was invited to the Merc drive day in coventry to drive either the new GL or the R class.. tried to book up for the GL.. and they were full.. and they offered me to drive the R class.. and i didn't really want to waste the time/effort, so left it..

Hi Kam,

Cheap is only cheap if you want it and they are overpriced in the first place (like BMW M6) thats why the seocnd hand market ratioalises the "values".

The new GL seems odd to me, we had an original 7 years ago and it was quite good but the new one is huge by comparison. Let me know if you get to drive one though.
As for R class, according to my brother in law it's quite popular in the SFO area, nuff said I suppose. 11 XFR

Yeah i agree.. they are expensive in the first place.. these two ML's we're looking at, one silver, one cubanite.. Command, CD Changer, Parktronic, Auto, Heated Seats, ML320 CDI, 06 plates, with under 10k miles for £37.5k.. Can't help but think these aren't cheap enough.. but new they are £44k.. Don't have half as much spec as the RRS HSE.. Bluetooth.. No, Xenons.. No, Heated rear/Elec Seats.. No, 19" Wheels.. No, Air Suspension..No, and like you said Maverick, not really an off road vehicle!

Is this open to the general public yet? Didn't you say this was an invite only day, VA?
