EPB Failure happened today - what to expect next?

So I never had issues with this before. I always use the parking brake. Applied it today, got out of the vehicle and locked it up. As soon as I locked it up, I got the squeal of death.

Got back into the car to see what was up. Pressed to release the parking brake and fault light appeared along with that squeal again. Tried moving the car forwards and backwards but the back wheels seemed to be locked.

AA came out to try and fix it. They pulled the release chord under the cup holders but it did nothing whatsoever. It’s now going to be toed to the garage I use to get repaired.

What kind of repair am I expecting to pay here?

Not sure if same problem!
However had my handbrake stuck on a couple of weeks ago. Was out of town at the time, a real pain in the neck. Two mornings on the trot....-6 degrees where I was also.
Anyway, called RAC second morning.
Seems Park brake actuators are prone to cracking. Rac guy disconnected them I got home without them. No Big deal.
My mechanic, took em off inspected them both, yes both cracked.
Replaced with new. Jobs a good en.
Approx £90 each for actuators, around one hour mechanic for removal, fitting and software check.
Happy guy.
Might be your probs, might NOT be. just my experience lately.

A bit off-topic, out of interest.
What is the purpose of using the handbrake in this car (except when on a ferry boat)? IMHO putting the gear in "P" just does the same. Do I miss something? 😊

A 2016 is a different setup.

There is a guide here, on how to get the park brake module working again.
Not fun, but cheaper than £500? for a new unit.
