Possible Gearbox issue, Looking for advise

Following on from my post about the linkage on my G/box, which I seem to have sorted. I did a 100 mile trip without any issues, until I got 3 mile from home.

I was on a roundabout and put my foot down hard (from a standing start) and something went pop. With a burning smell, and ticking noise whilst moving, from around the gear selector.

I now have limited gears, I think only to 3 and the faster I go (Max speed seems to be about 35mph) the louder the clicking noise gets. I only took it slowly to get home and to hopefully get her home without doing any more damage.

I haven't plugged in the GAP unit as I think its more than a software issue.

I know you guys dont have a crystal ball, but any suggestions about what may be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of research suggests transfer box, but will get codes tomorrow.

Wonder if it's something like the T/B input shaft splines worn and slipping under load might give a sort of clicking noise as they ride over each other a bit like a ratchet, I don't think worn splines are unheard off either. only a suggestion, but as said any codes may give a better clue.

Cheers
Col

Col, worn splines can happen - my old TDV8 suffered from it and when it went in for a new TC, Bristol Transmissions wouldn't do the TC unless they also did the output shaft on the gearbox and input shaft on the TB. Of course, thanks to the way the gearbox is put together, the entire internals have to come out - the output shaft is fitted from the inside.

Bill was a bit bigger than originally planned... Rolling with laughter

I think the car had been used for heavy towing by a previous owner, which won't have helped. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
