Personally I would enjoy the car… I have now run four L494’s since 2014 and travelled over 150,000 miles in them.. none of them ever broke down as such and the only failure I had was a window regulator on one of them..

From my own experience once a car has has a few problems I loose faith in it and every journey becomes a concern rather than a pleasure. So i would get ride of it although the comments about prices at the present are very relevant. To offset that issue perhaps the car you replace it with will have also taken a similar big hit. Even RR are now offering finance contributions and reduced APR finance on diesel Sports. Tim

I was in the same mind as you back in 2019 , I had a 2016 D4 bought in 2017 with 7500 miles on , when it was 3 yrs old and out of manufactures warranty I got myself wound up with the Crankshaft issue over on the D3/4 site .

I had never even heard about the crankshaft thing until I stumbled across this site a few years ago while looking for a problem to cure on my car. It led me into getting a Warranty Direct aftermarket warranty for my car, purely for piece of mind. The crank shaft has never snapped on my car. They have paid out on a few warranty repairs and they have paid out more than I have paid in renewal prices so all good as far as I’m concerned. I’ve had this car for 7 years now and have no plans to replace it. There is nothing good enough to replace it with without adding another £40k to the budget.My insurance doubled to over £800 and I won’t even tell you how much WBAC think it’s worth now as it’s insulting to me but I’m still keeping it. I also own a 2013 twin turbo BMW Z4 and WBAC also gave me an insulting valuation for that too so it’s not just RRS that’s dropping in value, it’s all vehicles. All cars have problems no matter what the manufacturer is. |

If it's causing you stress whenever you drive it, then get rid and buy something else. No point having a car you don't trust and thus don't want to drive. Do you use a specialist LR indie garage or a LR main dealer for servicing / work? If the latter, then simply changing to the former will improve your ownership - that was my experience. Had a TDV8 that was constantly going in to the main dealer (as it had LR's Approved Warranty and I didn't know better at the time). Always having some issue with it. Changed to a specialist LR garage and it was like I'd changed cars - issues went way down and any there were were fixed on the first visit. Became a joy to own again. Took it to northern Spain a couple of times (and did so with the SDV6 as well) and the trips were great. Current SDV6 has been with that same indie for the last 100k miles (bought from a forum member so a "good 'un" to start with), and it's had a couple of biggies - split inlet manifold (known issue), cross-over pipe (known age-related issue), pair of rear struts (high-speed pothole damage on one), but otherwise it's as expected for the age and mileage. Getting them sorted by someone who knows the vehicles is key to a happy (if not cheap) ownership experience. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Not everyone has the time/inclination to spend their weekends under their vehicles fixing stuff. I did it back in the day with my first couple of cars but these days I'd rather spend my time doing other things.

I actually paid £30k for it this year which at the time was a fair price... but now its worth pretty much half that and thats if theres any dealers willing to take it. Its like a perfect storm so I'm likely getting it fixed then selling it and cutting my losses I think. |

I've now had an L322, L320 and two L494s and have never had any issue that has left me stranded. The only major issue in all these cars I can remember was an air suspension bag on the L322. I'm very mechanically sympathetic with my cars which may have helped.
