Opinions on Ingenium 2.0 Engines Please.

It's time to update my wife's car from her old Evoque to something newer. Either a Velar or a Sport. Most seem to have the 2-litre Ingenium engine. An engine I was advised to generally avoid by a pal.

So I did a bit of online research and it seems they are known to put diesel into the oil, something to do with the DPF, necessitating much more frequent oil changes. And some think they are generally unreliable anyway.

My wife's usage isn't big mileage, it's mostly local running about so I am not bothered about fuel economy. So in light of that, I am thinking of a petrol version or a 3.0 instead.

But I wanted to seek the advice of the folks in the know here on the Ingenium engine, please. Is it best avoided or is the bad press unjustified? Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Whilst not being in any way an expert, everything I have read suggests not touching the 2.0 diesel with a barge pole. I don't know if the 2.0 petrol has the same reputation, but the 3.0 v6 diesel has crank issues, still. The 3.0 petrol sounds tempting though if MPG isn't a major issue.

I have been offered a 3-litre diesel and a 2-litre petrol as alternatives. I'm leaning towards the petrol as she doesn't particularly need 3 litres (she's in a 2.2 now), but they're all around the same kind of money.

Not touching the Ingenium with a barge pole is pretty much what I read too. But as some folks here probably have 2-litre diesels, I was hoping to canvas opinion.

But all opinion, anecdotal or actual is welcome. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Stuart,

Please don’t get confused between the 4-pot 2 litre Ingenium and the 6-pot 3 litre Ingenium.

The 6-pot is a straight six configuration, the earlier 3 litre 6-pot was a V6 configuration and NOT Ingenium.

I’ve had no problems with three V6 sports or with a D250 Defender that SWMBO has had for 30 months now.

I’ve just picked up a 3 litre 6-pot D300 Sport - and it’s “stunning”.

I’ve heard bad things about the 4-pot (D200/240) but purely “hearsay”.

Local dealer (Melbourne) has a yard “full” of Ingenium 2L powered cars - waiting on parts for warranty repairs. No such issue with the 3L, which is what I have. No issues - touch wood. MY21.5 HSE 221KW D16

A gently used 3.0 Velar is being prepped at Sytner Sheffield now. I expect that might have a bit of go in it with a small bodyshell.

I feel like I've dodged a bullet with this topic. Thumbs Up Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.
