Hi Robin,

Robbies guide is very good and it does work,
although when your paying for their time it may not be financially the best option for them to do it, rather than doesn't work Rolling Eyes

it is all doable if you have the time and a tidy workbench you could splice the water pipes together while you refurbed it or if your garage get you a s/h unit make sure you get your old one back and have a go at it, or let someone else have a practice on it Laughing

ISTR the units are a bit specific to age so make sure their getting a like for like unit

Cheers RB. Good thoughts. My old bones are creaking a bit too much for doing much myself so I'm waiting to see what my indie comes up with. But your thoughts re age specific are taken onboard, thanks. Robin

My 2008 TDV8 comes as standard with the FBH which works automatically when the engine is started and the outside temperature is a bit low (under 5C I think).

I bought a control unit to add to the heater so that I could fire it up using the key remote. This means I could start the FBH from the kitchen window whilst I was finishing my cup of tea and so when I got out there it had already started to warm up the engine.

Newer cars have more sophisticated systems including cabin heating and programmable timings I believe.

I'm not sure how it differs, if at all, with a 2010 TDV6 Robin

Webasto FBH on L320 RRS TDV6

Hi guys, thank you for your replies, much appreciated. My home screen has not got that menu option as he says in the video "if you are luck enough to have timed climate" I guess I am not in the lucky category as my menu doesn't have that option.

And the webasto heater has never come on on its own even below 0 temperatures, this is why i was wondering if a software update might add that function to the menu or the only way forward is to add one remote control unit that might allow me to have a cupper before i get into nice warm car. thanks again.

First. Go here and learn how to reset the heater.
It maybe as simple as removing the fuse for 20 seconds.

Later in the video, does he show how to enable timed climate with a gap iid (if you have one)?

Unlikely, but you maybe able to read the FBH fault codes, which might say lockout, and clearing it may make the heater work.

Disco4 and your car are very similar

Webasto FBH on L320 RRS TDV6

Hi Andy, had some time to plug in my diagnostic scanner in yesterday and had a look, it has no function to activate or enable the times heater as you guessed. However i read the fault codes under auxiliary title and i had a fault code of B1D31 - Flame detected prior to normal operation.

Had a quick look online about this code and it seems like its the glow plug issue, which may double up as a sensor, as well as a diesel heater (may be).

Does anyone know if the this glow plug is actually on the heater or is it one of the glow plugs on the actual engine, I might be able to find a proper LR tool and try to enable FBH function with it and set the timer to check if it works, until i do that is it worth investigating more.. thanks guys.

I honestly think you would be enter off with the dedicated webasto software. With this you can watch live values and check parameters,, you can test any of the components by forcing them to run on an individual basis. More importantly,, and quite common,, you can check to see if the heater is locked out and reset it if necessary. Lockouts happen if the heater fails to light after a set number of attempts. This could be glow plug, fuel pump, fan or in some cases a faulty fuel cradle.

To answeryour question, the heater has its own glow plug situated in the top of burner,, can be bought but are about £70 so worth making sure it's faulty first,,,, thats why the webasto software is worth having ( and it's free).

I rebuilt mine last year but bought a complete burner core as the porcelain insulator had cracked and was spilling fuel,, more cost effective as this includes insulator, glow plug, flame detector and fuel cradle which cannot be bought.

Maybe a gap tool would be better in activating timed climate as I didn't catch what you were trying to do it with. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Hi gogsy, thank you for your reply, my webasto has never workd as far as i am aware and trying to figure out why or how to activate it, the menu has not got Timed Climate function and was looking to get it enabled with proper LR tool to test it.

What is the webasto software you mentioned and if its free. Gap scanners are about £500 to buy with HVAC enable disable functions etc Sad(

I will go and see my mechanic friend and see if one of his scanners will be able to get into those functions. It would be very interesting to test it all and see if its not worked due to a faulty component or is it just a software issue, any idea about B1D31 Code, thanks a lot

Good news is that webesto diagnostics are very cheap!

This site use to sell a cable. or copies on ebay

The then run the software on a laptop with USB port
