On the 9th July 2023 I bit the bullet and placed an order with the dealer we’ve used since 1997 for a Verasine Blue D300 AB.

It’s our 12th Land Rover from them.

Delivery estimate was “6-9 months” meaning Jan- Apr 2024, which drops in nicely with my 19MY L494 AB being 5yrs old on 1/3/24.

Today I’ve had a phone call………build date 13th Oct, delivery to Dealer 27th Oct and to me by early November!!!!

Now to see about insurance!

The broker I have been with for 33yrs quoted me £4350 for the D300 AB vice £511 last year for the L494 AB.

Go.compare - reviewed the quotes and got cover for £850 with £500 vountary and £550 compulsory excess from "DIAMOND" - a subsidiary of Admiral.

I think you’ll find this is why your order got built so fast.. the huge number of cancelled orders…
JLR even had to host a meeting of major insurers at the factory recently due to the impact of lost sales..

The biggest problem here which we haven’t discussed is the knock on effect of second hand residuals… it will drastically affect the value of the cars that we already own..

Whilst someone who can afford a new £100k plus car will not shrug at paying 4-5k for insurance or it will be lost in company accounts those persons who purchase second hand run far tighter budgets and that justification is a much harder decision…

I know several people who were about to purchase second hand and immediately cancelled upon receipt of their insurance quote… if they become uninsurable for middle man then secondhand values will naturally freefall..

I have already noticed second hand values in main dealers start to appear reasonable…

As someone who can only ever afford 6-7year old vehicles, this is all good news. Looking forward to a good availability of diesels as well (batteries are for starting engines).
Insurance is still sub £500 and likely to stay that way unless I move house.
