So after many years, and a lot of money, I have to finally leave the world of Land Rover products behind.

My D2 TD5 was the start of an adventure, littered with a range of emotions that continued into the D3 and finally the TDV8 RRS. I’ve laughed at the boy racers left behind in my dust, cried when all three broke and money was poured into them, but that roar and acceleration from the TDV8 somehow made it worthwhile.

I can’t see how I can return as the new products are being bought by a different customer, and are priced for a difference market. Second hand models as I found out can be complex and expensive to maintain. And now the Government’s and Insurance companies of the world want to punish us for loving them.

In the end my RRS wasn’t economically viable for me, but a local gent has bought her with a plan go build a beastie in mind, so maybe just maybe there is still plenty of life left in her.

Thanks to all for the advice and support over the years, esp Disco Mikey for the servicing and repairs on the TDV8. I wish you all well. Previously owned 1999 Disco 2 TD5

How do know if the knocking at the front has been sorted?

You can hear the knocking at the rear better

I can relate to that, when I first bought my 5.0L S/C I took the supercharger badges off, quite funny when the poor little souls were left sat in the outside lane a traffic lights etc. looking rather deflated with a lot of noise and no puff, then it got boring so put then back on and nearly grew up.

One day I'll be in the same boat, I guess. My RRS is my hobby. I can't afford any other hobbies. At least I'll know that when it has to go, either because I've run out of money, or it's thrown a wobbly and won't move without a second mortgage thrown at it, then I'll suddenly become rich again whilst driving my G-Wiz around. But that's the big problem. Whatever would I do to replace my RRS? What would come anywhere close to walking back across the Tesco car park past all those drab and dreary, samey cars and jumping into the RRS?

Hope it doesn't happen for a while yet. 126,000 miles and still on the original turbos.

I feel your pain...

My TDV8 was declared 'Beyond Economical Repair' last week. After 13yrs & 150,000 miles, I was sad to see it go but at least it has gone to someone who plans to rebuild it, rather than breaking it.
