AW8 : Update(s) on my 2005 4.4 HSE L320

Mindful I don't post many updates re my car.

Brief update on my 2005 Petrol V8 4.4 HSE L320

Just sourced a quality part worn dunlop quattromax 255/50/19 in advance of forthcoming MOT.....I don't fit dangerous used tyres this one was fine...no lumps bumps cuts and plenty of tread.

Friday I am having a new fuel tank cradle fitted....I also sourced new bolts and washers for this and heat shield.

I have also sourced a modified breather for the front differential.

Sorted airbag light by repositioning loom under drivers seat also sorted phone mode stuck on by hard battery reset.

Car is 14 years old over 120k on clock and my daily driver ...fingers crossed for MOT (I know NOT all above are MOT items).

Recently sourced a bargain priced dog guard albeit the lower brackets are missing. A friend in the trade has offered to make some up but this won't be for a while. I have posted a wanted advert on here but a template would be useful if I want to get these fabricated. The fitting kit costs near £100.

Not terribly exciting but my ramblings may be of some interest or point others in right direction if faced with similar issues.

It's not the best handling 4x4 on the road and a bit of a sleepless nights car but it has grown on me over last year or so.

Tank cradle, replacement fastenings, airbag warning and front diff breather plus new fastenings on the spare wheel guard trim......no.issues thus far.

Still after some LR dog guard lower brackets.

At least my tank is secure now.

Next job...prop shaft coupling

Tough Crowd Wink Note to self.....Must try harder Thumbs Up

Thanks

Re guard ....Yes - Full height genuine LR product part number VPLSS0205
Seller in error left the bottom brackets that bolt onto front cargo retainers in his car when he p/x'd it....A little irrirating but I got it for a low price. I have utilised some Karabiners or whatever they are called for now..

I have placed a wanted ad in classifieds re the floor brackets. These are occasionally in error left fitted in vehicles when they get sold on or p/x'd & absent of a removed/sold dog guard.

If any good folk on here without a guard can check their vehicles for non used but fitted items & pm men if found it would be hugely appreciated.

Recently also sourced a foam boot floor tray as items was missing when I bought the car. Also had a spare pair of wheel chocks thrown in.

Nedd to get the two LR jack handles sourced at some point.....I know the opinions on jack strength. If working under car I have ramps.

Sounds like you have a full time hobby Thumbs Up
Take care with used tyres, you never know the history or the age. Keep your eye on the for sale section on here and the Disco 3 & 4 forums

Please post some photos in your Gallery In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I should have added, if you have a mix match of tyres, different wear levels, this will result in a different rolling radius, and this can/will cause problems Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

Thanks for your contributions/ repllies.

My tyre sourcing & fitment all good...sourced a Decent part worn because I only needed one tyre & wanted one to match the other 3...the n/s/f as was a little low on outer edge. The tracking & suspension checked & all ok. Mine had front wishbones done so maybe some prior wear to suspension didn't help. Depth on the latest tyre is a bit more than other 3 but not enough to bother me re rolling radius/handling or other issues , (edge was the issue). Aware of issues re mismatched rubber...this is my 4th 4x4 vehicle.

Tyre is identical in terms of brand, type, pattern, condition, speed and load ratings - I even checked the manufacture date before buying. Zero visible damage. I also had it fitted by someone competent.

I accept many would never buy used tyres but every sold used car has them fitted....(unless sold with brand new virginal items).

I appreciate the offered advice...my.response may benefit others but also hopefully shows I am relatively clued up & fastidious in this area.

Re jack....I have spent significant time reading posts re bottle jacks on here & disco forums (mixed & sometimes conflicting advice) re Disco 2 , Vito & Halfords bottle jack options (& adaptor disussions). Right now I just want the LR handle & extension for my LR scissor jack.....Happy to adopt these from anyone who considers same unusable &/or redundant Wink

Just a quick albeit belated update ....

Due to a change of personal circumstances I sold my L320 5 months ago

I actually enjoyed ownership..Like any used vehicle - these need to be sourced carefully &, (like most vehicles), also benefit from proactive maintenance & tlc.

I would consider owning another in the future....subject to later circumstances

Thanks to all on here for great site content & useful info.

AW8 checking out....for now at least.

So..4 years since parting with my 2005 Java Black 4.4 L320 HSE...I confess I miss the car somewhat.

YD55 WCW - Where are you ?

Have recently been looking at online classifieds at early L320 models again.

Looks like it has been fitted with a personal plate now, to make your search harder!
