Heard this on the news this morning. As per usual, the media portray that it's 4x4 owners that will be hit hardest!! It's like sports cars and big-engined exec barges don't exist Evil or Very Mad

On a later report on R4 Today programme the man from Richmond Council slyly slipped in a bit that anybody with a car that has a capacity over 1.5 litres will have to pay extra - who do these guys think votes them into office? Far more families who bought what they though was a small. efficiently engined car will be hit by this than the number of execubarges/ sports cars and 4x4's. I note that it is a Lib Dem council - must have trained at the Labour school of underhand spin - claim that your plan is to hit big execubarges etc and then clobber the family man quietly while nobody is looking! Or they have been listening too much to that idiot Norman Smith the MP for Lewes 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

They obviously haven't heard that LR now include a CO2 Offset charge in their prices which offsets carbon emmissions for the first 3 years or 45,000 miles!!!..thus making LRs the cleanest cars on the road! Whos ever heard of a motor dealer using cap to value part exchanges??????!!!

Isn't it interesting that the supposedly "eco friendly" cars in day to day running turn out to be some of the least eco friendly when it comes to lifetime use..... from built through to crusher/recycling the Toyota Prius turns out to one of the least eco friendly cars on the roads today! Even the Supercharged FFRR(slagged off by the tree huggers as being a rain forest killer) comes out better over it's lifetime than both the Prius and the Honda. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Remember that 80% of co2 in the lifetime of a car emissions occur during building. So an 'eco friendly' Prius with a life time expectancy of 10 years will produce more co2 in a life v emissions test compared to a RRS with an expected life is 20 years. WAKE UP RICHMOND COUNCIL! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Lets all go carbon neutral....

Ive done a little research, and it discredits (unless I have made a fundamental mistake) all the fuss about the damage we do with our 'gas guzzling chelsea tractors'.

Based on my high anual mileage and 30mpg, to offset all my CO2 emmisions and run my car carbon neutral costs just £44 a year!

Apart from my gripes that (disregarding for one moment the massive car tax we pay as it is..) if the government were to simply put another 50 quid on our road tax everyone could all shut up going on about the environment and 4x4's.....

Why dont we all club together, each pay our 45 quid and launch a massive we'll show you 'get out of our faces, we are all carbon neutral' campaign?

We could have some rear window stickers made up Very Happy

I own a 15 acre paddock which is 30% wooded & lots of oak & beech saplings in the rest. I also burn off cut wood from the saw mill for most of the house heating, completely Carbon Neutral. OK I run two D3s & an Aygo & have a somewat smashed up Disco1 laid up at the moment but my "Carbon Footprint" is still significantly negative. If anyone wants to decreade their carbon footprint, send me a couple of tree saplings (couple of quid each) and I'll plant them in the paddock.

PS Worst greenhouse gas is water vapour & if CO2 is the great nemesis, ban Coke (drink type), politcal jollies across the globe and the Olympic Flame as all are pumping out carbon needlessly!

PPS Climate change is natural, it has been happening for the last 4.something billion years & will be hapenning til th esun turns giant red & consumes the Earth in few billion years! "Man made" global warming is bo****ks, just politicos trying to contol us & tax us to death. Remember the Millenium Bug!

PPPS VA, glad I've not been on teh wine with that spinning RRS, would give me premiture helicopters! I'd get the DSC sorted! Wink

A household general use of electricity and heating is more of a problem than cars. Only 20% of the c02 omitted comes from cars!

The rest comes from Shmoogle! Wink 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
