Diesel or PHEV?

We are moving to the inner Hebrides soon and this afternoon looking at 2 RRSport ATBs, one a 2019 PHEV with 55,000 miles and one a 2019 SDV6 with 14,000 miles. Main use will be on-island where most of the roads sre single track and some rough tracks not to mention some often heavyweight winter weather to deal with. We will also occasionally make 1,200-mile round trips back to the south of England to reconnect with friends. Both types of journey being mostly with two large dogs in the back.

Would appreciate some wisdom on which power train makes most sense please.

Decision made

The distaff side of the household test drove both the PHEV and the SDV6 this afternoon. PHEV started out at 18 miles SoC and just two miles later - admittedly with some heating and dyamic mode selected - had only 8 miles remaining. Also felt quite harsh when the petrol engine kicked in. SDV6 felt subjectively quicker, more refined, no noisier, and of course lower miles. Also various dog accessories included. And we have a pure EV for electric miles. No brainer really...

I have a L494 PHEV P400e. It has been garaged for the last 5 months. Fired it up yesterday and the drive is stuck in hybrid mode. Previously it would start in EV and I could drive locally on battery only and gear up to hybrid if on a highway. But it starts in hybrid and is stuck in hybrid. Can anyone suggest what's wrong and how do I get the EV selector/switch to work?

Sounds like a battery related problem. Did you keep it on a battery maintainer whilst garaged?

Yes, it was on a trickle charge.

Sometimes the car needs to ‘re-learn’ driving style. Perhaps a couple of descents runs and it will resolve. I’m the later PHEVs they often force ICE for a while after a software update to re-learn.

Try switching the climate control totally off and select ev, if it works it’s a fault with the HV water heater, my p400e is on its third now, it’s a common fault with these hybrid drive trains.
