Latvia 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Ipanema Sand
RRS steering wheel out of alignment.

Greetings.
RRS 2012 188kw 3L D , SDV6 engine.
So - one day without reason - drive stright , steering wheel keeps about 20 degrees on the left.Called to garage to fully set underneath alignment, again - I've did that last time about a year ago after changing front suspension Arnott, both sides. So - its better after alignment, but still seems about 5mm on left. There is no active stearing system or stability system on it.
As mechanic said - NO good, that he did NOT found the reason of problem down there underneath , mechanically all looked well.He said, with years it goes for some small part out of alignment, but not that drastically. And reason is not discovered.
So, I afraid, that one day it will kick errors again on dashboard - after some time you drive it analyzes, that steering wheel is out of alignment, and drops HDC, antislipping and stability control warnings, three amber lights ON in dashboard. After you shut engine down, they disappear, but after some 5 miles on the road they are back on again.
Any suggestions please?

After having my suspension adjusted, my steering wheel would go out of alignment, and despite several adjustments, the problem always came back.

It turned out to be a broken concentric/essentric bolt (the one used for adjustment).

Although both ends remained in place (due to rust), it was broken along its length inside the lower arm.

You should also set the suspension to "tight tolerance mode " before carrying out and alignment.

Have you had the steering angle sensor calibrated, it won't change the angle of the steering wheel position but it may cause the warning lights to come on above a few Kph an hour as it's feeding wrong info to the BCM if out of calibration, had a similar issue after having alignment done after fitting new lower arms, which sorted the warning lights, tweaked track rods to re-align steering wheel, screwed one in and one out by exactly same amount (depending which way wheel needs to go) then did the steering sensor again and everything has been spot on since, normal tyre wear, no pulling to one side and brakes as straight as a die without holding steering wheel. Must be nearly nearly years ago, 20K and still spot on.

This is basically what I did to center the wheel.

Cheers
Col

Steering angle reset I think is a must after front suspension work. Had this on both the sport and D3
