Insurance - June 2023

Hi,

Just joined the forum, i had a 2017 RRS and used to pay around £500 for insurance. I ordered my new 440e SE this time last year, and it is coming close to delivery, but i am genuinely struggling to get anyone to insure me, with the best quotes coming out at around 6-7k! Is there anyone else who has found this and overcome the problem? If so who did you use for your insurance?

I am 44 male, in the midlands, no points, and one no fault claim in the last 3 years. so nothing difficult to insure you wouldn't imagine!

Any help gratefully received

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon and welcome. You are not alone and across the sister LR type forums members are posting about their insurance renewal or awaiting a new build. The SE seems to be hit particularly hard but that doesn't concern you. Others will be along soonest, but if you get 5 mins have a look via the search wi5h some key words and digest. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Hi Simon, welcome, like you I had a 2017 RRS were I paid about, £450 Annually, got the new 2023 sport in January this year and got some really stupid quotes and I have 30 years no claims and never had an accident.

I went with NFU Mutual, cost £960 per annum this includes 2 year gap insurance built in to the policy.

Might be worth trying them. Good Luck

Just renewed mine, MY2014 3.0 HSE.
Current insurer wanted to bump up nearly £200 over last years price. Zero change to my circumstances, actually I dropped 1000 miles off my business use.
Did a meerkat and got the increase down to £40.
So £420 fully comp including business use and wife as named driver.
Not great, but not a horror story like I am reading on these posts.
I think car insurance can be summed up as a 'postcode lottery'. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Just been informed my insurance due 03/08/2023. However AXA will not renew.
Last two years with Axa. 430-460 respectively. With a £250 access.
Just been on comparison sites. cheapest I can get.

Wait for it.

or
A smidgen under £1900 with A normal 350 access.

Going o have to bite the bullet and pay... Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Can only see the value of the motor dropping like a bomb, from now on.

Forgot to mention folks. its an older car 2016 NOT new. Me 65 years old full no claim discount, 8k per annum.

Rant over

The Sheffield area appears to be suffering RRS-related crime - there are several people on the forum from there that are complaining of high premiums. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hello All,
I have been watching this thread and others relating to
unbelievable insurance hikes in premiums for 2023, when
compared to 2022, my question is, it the L494 and newer only?

Don't seem to see the same discussion on the older L320?? ===========================================

Cannot answer your question, i'me afraid. I suppose you could type your details into a comparison site.

Best / cheapest I could get, After searching all day on the net. With a reasonable access was / is
Sheila's wheels.
Just short of £1500 with a £1250 access. So jumped in, got fed up of searching in the end.

My L320 came off three year fixed price with Saga this year and went up £30……mind you used prices are dropping like a stone😬

These newer models need proper security! might be great to unlock your car from phone or not have to unlock it yourself at all but here we are now you’ve got no car….need to go old school 👍 Steve

You're bang on the money here Devon. Seems to me that keyless entry fixed a problem that didn't exist and in the process created a much more serious new one.
I recall a post on here years ago where someone was bemoaning the fact that there was nowhere in the car to store the (keyless) key. I commented that in my 2008 car they had made a specific place for it. It was called the keyhole. Very Happy Robin

Not my Range Rover as its not due until November, but the renewal for my Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe came in today, approx 600bhp, far more expensive car than the Range Rover £284, up from £214 with £0 voluntary excess & £150 compulsory excess. This is before me going on a comparison site as I always do.

I did an experiment and used a comparison site to quote for a 2yo L494 SVR worth £90k. Cheapest quote was £700 from esure and Sheila's Wheels (they have the same parent company, I believe). My 2012 SDV6 cost me c.£300 in November.

Some of the SVR quotes were in the thousands, however. But it shows that it's not inherently a recent car issue - there's a lot of locality involved: the old "postcode lottery" rearing its head. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
