2010 3.6 TDV8 Servicing questions - Diffs and transfer box

Hi folks,

Following on from my engine oil capacity enquiry, I have a few questions regarding capacities and torque settings for the front and rear diffs and also the transfer box.

In the RRSL320WSM2006.pdf document it states the following:

Front Diff:

Oil - 0.61 litres
Drain plug - 30Nm
Filler plug - 34Nm

Rear Diff:

Oil - 1.11 litres
Drain plug - 54Nm
Filler plug - 34Nm

Transfer Box:

Oil - 1.5 litres
Drain plug - 22Nm
Filler plug - 22Nm

But in the in the workshop manual for the L320 2013, it states:

Front Diff:

Oil - 0.61 litres
Drain plug - 29Nm
Filler plug - 29Nm

Rear Diff:

Oil - 1.25 litres
Drain plug - 29Nm
Filler plug - 29Nm

Transfer Box:

Oil - 1.5 litres
Drain plug - 22Nm
Filler plug - 22Nm

Though some of the figures are the same, a couple of the oil quantites and torque settings differ.

I know that the later 2013 manual does not cover the 3.6 TDV8, but which documentation should I be following.

Many thanks

Later vehicles diffs used a different drain/filler plugs which is why you have different torque setting if I recall correctly it is vin. dependent, you can tell the difference by the drive one is hex, the other square, with the transfer box they used two different size threads 16mm and 18mm so you need to know which you have. If you have a locking rear diff the oil is also a different spec. and quantity. The quantity you have for the rear diff 1.25 liters is for a new diff initial fill, not a service refill.

There were two revised editions of the workshop manual for the facelift vehicles, 10/11 and 12/13, a great deal of the information will no doubt be the same in both, however the 10/11 issue does include the TDV8 engine. There is also a updated version of TDV8 information/spec. for the 2007-2009 vehicles, although I'm sure most of it will be the same, just that the page layouts are different.

Hi Col,

Many thanks, really appreciate your help.

I created a login for Topix last week and grabbed a load of info, is the 10/11 TDV8 workshop manual available from there ?

Many thanks

Yes, it is or it certainly used to be, you will need to buy a subscription to download it though, which you probably know already. I do have a copy here somewhere if I can find it I will add a link to the post, or alternatively pm me your email and I will send you a pdf copy.

Cheers
Col
