Air con Monday morning woe

Got my system regassed last month as after a year from last regas (not a specialist, just a regular service place) there was no more cold air. Different air con specialist could not find a leak and put in a dye that would show up under UV light.
Drove around for a month and its still working, but took it back this morning as planned.
Result was a 'porous' condenser. Likely bill in the region of £1k due in large part to the labour involved in removal plus of course a large part.
He refused to use sealant as he said this can cause bigger problems later. I do trust him as he has a good reputation and I saw him fully test the system first time.
Anybody have any comments? I'm planning to keep it for another year or so, but having just had a gearbox megaflush, my maintenance budget is creaking. You get a lot of regasses for £1k! RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

See how long it lasts and regas as necessary?

- Check ebay for any reconditioned parts and if your handy enough you can swap this yourself, system will need regassing anyway after you've swapped the condenser.

I know mine's a different model,, but I did mine about 18 months ago,,, managed to get a new Nissens condenser for £77 plus the price of a recharge. Lots of bits to come off or pulled to one side but if I was to do it again,, 4 or 5 hours taking my time. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks for advice guys, I am handy enough when it comes to mechanical things, but the thought of removing all the front on my own is a bit daunting. The front bumper looks particularly heavy. I also seem to have zero luck with anything plastic in terms of clips and fasteners.

I'll wait to see how long the last regas lasts and make a judgement on that basis. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014
