Update on the ongoing squeeking guys, please advise, Removed both sets of front pads noticed offside where squeaking seems to be worst has worn alot on the edge in only about 60 miles, But the nearside is totally different see the 2 pictures for comparison. Did i read Brembo chamge the design to chamfer the edge to prevent squeeling?

Cleaned all copper grease off pads and pistons and applied MINTEX Ceratec Lubricant Anti Squeal Brake Caliper Grease

Also i cleaned the discs with brake cleaner but when i pulled up it looks like both discs has brown lines, Would the pads cause this?

This is a copy of the L/R instruction to chamfer the brake pads, albeit the NAS one it should still apply to all vehicles with the six pots, the problem is it didn't work and they eventually introduced a new design/style brake pad to cure it.

Mine showed the brown lines on the discs in the early days, and still do albeit very, very light now, as I said I have EBC redstuff pads and EBC drilled/grooved discs and they have never made a sound. I don't think 60 miles is sufficient to bed the brakes in either, sure EBC give a procedure to bed them in or at least there were with my mine

Thanks for this read Col, I noticed it says to grease the side of the pads but no mention of the back of the pad where the pistons sit, Should this not be greased i thought someone said to?

It looks like the noise is this chamfer edge if theres a bulletin to file the pads down, I would have thought EBC would have chamged the design, Its this area you can see it crumbling on the. Edge of the pad so im guessing this is getting alot of pressure.

This was the instruction for the earlier pads, It looks like on later pads they fitted a different type of anti-squeal backing and did away with need for grease on it. I can't really comment on other people's experiences only my own, but as I said the EBC pads I fitted were straight out of the box and were spot on, and they had no chamfer on the top edge as the L/R instruction shows either. If I recall correctly the chamfer mod did not work and the squeal came back after a few miles, which is why they introduced a different pad, however I do not know who the latest pads was manufactured by.

Given the cause of brake squeal is predominatly due to the build up of brake dust, and by the pictures your brake disc dimples and grooves have this within, I suspect your issue is down to the discs, not the pads/calipers.

Your discs are acting like a file on the pads.

There is absolutly no advantage to these types of discs for road use, in fact all they do is increase pad wear.

Thanks for your opinion Dave, Im starting to wonder if the upgrade was even worth it now with the amount of times i have had the Callipers off and now pads.

The pads were tight going in so i suspect they need a few mm wearing in if ppl have found them fine affer bedding in, Suppose it only takes one of the grooves to not be smooth and it could be scraping the pads until it wears in?

EBC pads can be noisy until bedded in. I wouldn't worry about it until you've done a few hundred miles

Thats Good to hear mate i did notice they’re slightly quieter after refitting. It looks like on general ebc/grooved feedback they will come good and i can enjoy the ride again soon 👍 I have sent a message to the lads at Maltings 4x4 so im guessing they will respond with the same feedback allowing them more time to bed in.

EBC drilled and grooved discs front and rear with ebc pads well bedded in and not a peep out of them.

Update on the noise Gents, I decided to take all the front pads off at the weekend and i have chamfered the to edging to 45 degrees as per the Landrover bulletin, I also shaved around 1mm of the face of the pad, I noticed only 1 pad was a tight push back it but all greased up and back on. The noise only starts after about 2 miles of driving so it must be heat related, Just spoke to the Specialist who sold the 6 pot calipers and he said to bring it in for the mechanic to take a look, Not sure what he would be looking at as theres nothing saying its this? I will teat drive it again a weekend after going for a longer drive.

Would you say its the discs which are terrafirma ones not britpart drilled and grooved or more likely a sticking caliper?

Have you determined whether it is just the o/s or n/s wheel or both sides ?

Have you tried something like using a bit of using a bit of plywood or something like that about the size of the brake pad, but thin enough to imitate a worn pad but not let the pistons come out to far, apply the brakes, remove the wood and see how easily you can push the piston back in. Could do one pad at a time which might show up if a piston sticking, obviously won't be the complete caliper body sticking as the brembos's are not on slider pins. Only a suggestion which might or might not prove something.

Do you have any sort of " Heat blue spots" on the discs which could indicate high spots or harder areas of the disc, or maybe grooves in the pads which could indicate a rough machining of the grooves or drillings, just trying to think of thing that may indicate where your problem lies.

I know the brembo calipers do have different size pistons in the caliper but I don't thing the piston diameter is close enough to get them in the wrong position. I guess you could get the seal in wrong groove, whether that could cause a piston to stick wouldn't have a clue, more likely to leak I would think, again only a thought which is probably way off base.

I went slotted with EBC yellows a little while ago. Initially, they were good an pretty quiet but, then they started squealing like Ned Beatty in Deliverance for a couple of 000 miles and just took an age to bed in properly. Over time, it got progressively better and now, totally quiet. In my experience it just seems to take time and use to bed them in.

Overall, I'm happy with their performance although, that first stop at the end of the road on a cool morning does seem to take a bit of shove. I wouldn't go yellow again though as it has taken far too long for them to quieten down and they are a really hard pad for the road. They're great when pushing on in Dynamic mode and Sport on the g'box but, I don't drive like that too often.

Next time, I'd go for Green as I hear they are easier to get bedded in and more appropriate to general use. Cheers,

Thanks for that experience Stuart and very helpful for anyone else and at the minute i couldnt agree more.

I spoke to Maltings4x4 this week who have been excellent with the situation, They say the cause of noise is too much metal within the pad itself, I did ask if they thought it was the terrafirma discs cutting too much of the pad off but he was adamant it would be the pads So they are sending me a replacement swt of front pads out which i will be fitting next week. My concern is if the noise continues or is just the same then what? I dont do much mileage so maybe im in that bedding in stage alot longer then Stuart and others but for me its not worth it knowing now this squealing is what they do i would not buy them again.

I do have a set of these that I got from the States to try out, figured they were replacements for the Redstuff which have been discontinued for SUV's, can't really comment on their performance yet though as have never actualy got around to fitting them.
