Ive tried to find the fixed or deployable side step options for the L461 but cant find them, has anyone had them fitted or are they not yet available ?

I believe that the deployable ones are a dealer fit option. I’ve ordered them and was told they’d be fitted at the dealers. Cost in the region of £3200!

I think that’s what they used to do with the L494 deployable side steps, the dealer fits them they are not fitted in the factory. I’m pretty certain the L494 steps were a similar price too. I got my RRS when it was 1.5 year old and got deployable side steps fitted from a dealers. I got different prices from different dealers in my area, anything from £2K to £3K. Obviously I opted for the £2K price and that was from LR Huddersfield. All ok and never had an issue with them in over 6 years. A very cool upgrade to any RRS which always get a mention when anyone new gets in my car.

Just to give an opposing view…
I hated mine… they were awkward and I was forever catching the back of my ankle with them.. they also made it difficult to jack up the car to change a wheel..
And think what you could do with £3k… you could always hire a butler with a step for that money…

My new car hasn’t got them….

My old L320 had fixed steps which were ok in use. A friend has a FFRR with the deployable steps and they are too narrow and quite slippery meaning they're not very good to use. I wouldn't fit deployable steps based on that experience, as they're no doubt similar to the FFRR ones. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

When ordering my car, I pondered over fixed or deployable, Wanted to go for deployable as its a neat look when closed. However at the back of my mind, what would happen in the winter with slush , ice etc. would they stick, freeze closed , open/close half way. I have had the deployable steps from new on a 7 year old L494 and pretty sure its the only part of the car that's never gone wrong ! They have been totally reliable, against a low benchmark !

I too have had mine fitted for the last 6 years with no issues at all. No problem changing wheels as I did mine when I fitted my 22s. You can lock them in the out position (I think. It’s all in the handbook) My only complaint is that they get dirty easily with general driving and obviously standing on them

Ill wait it out a while to see if I can get used to the car without them and also get used to the LR Niggles I had forgotten about for the past few years

I went for fixed and they’re great. You don’t see much of them when the doors are shut and they’rea think profile do what you do see looks neat but with the door open, you get a ledge plenty wide enough to stand on. Given the way these are, the deployable ones are a waste of money.
