SVR - real world daily driver?.......

Hi......newbie here who moved away from a RRS in 2020.........it was an HSE Dynamic and I just loved it!......

Since I moved away I've ventured into 'sportier cars' and had an RS5, then an M5 (useless) and now a base 911 and the 911 just doesn't work in any way as a daily car and I have the urge to get back into a RRS..........

Im looking at an SVR (2021) and would love to run that and then in a couple of years maybe get the new model once all the 'new addition gremlins' are worked through.

As a daily (and only car apart from my wifes Evoque), does the SVR work in terms of running costs....Im used to cars being a bit 'light' on mpg as the M5 was aweful but I did get 30mpg on a motorway run but around town was used to high teens / low twenties.......what is the SVR really like.

Im super drawn to one as its probably the best looking 4x4 and practicality is off teh scale BUT looking forward will I be stung on getting out of it as the world gets even more crazy 'electric'.....will a 5ltr supercharged bus be frowned upon even more.....Ive been stung on a few cars and cost a fortune to get out of them?.....

Any advice is greatly appreciated as really want o make a decision as long as I can get out of this go-kart, uncomfy 911

Thanks

Have you considered the non-SVR 5 litre V8 supercharged? It has the same engine, very nearly the same power as the SVR (mine now has more following a remap by DMS), same brakes, less firm suspension and is one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I also personally feel they look better than the SVR as I don't want the extra bodykit etc of the SVR.

Real world MPG is around 21-23 with 26-27 on a motorway run but it has a 105 litre tank so refills are around as often as for the diesel which I had before. 2014 L494 V8 s/c Autobiography Dynamic

I have just parted with my l494 supercharged Petrol, on paper it seemed my ideal car as I wouldn’t do many miles a year in it, I have other vehicles, what I found and this is just my short experience with it, air bag light would come on nearly every time the drivers seat was moved, independent Land Rover garage could not stop it , various Electric problems , 2 of them left me stranded and had to have a recovery lorry, general short driving around 15mpg , around 18 to 20 on longer runs, I made so many excuses to myself to keep it but it was literally draining my bank account, the last straw was when I went to insure it again and they wanted over a thousand pounds, this was not a cheap un loved car , it had low miles , one precious owner and full service history. I hope you have better luck than I did. By the way I have a 911 and that has been one of the best cars I have ever owned.

That does sound very unlucky Crs - I've now run 2 L494s for 6 years as my daily drivers and haven't had any real issues with either car - the airbag warning light is a well-known issue and is resolved cheaply with a new connector under the seat.

You must also have a VERY heavy right foot - you could argue you're driving it correctly and I'm going too slowly... Laughing 2014 L494 V8 s/c Autobiography Dynamic

I’ve not learnt my lesson with JLR, I still have a Discovery 4 and a Defender 😂, touch wood those have been fine except when the garage left a fuel pump fuse out of the Defender.

I’m now on my fourth L494 and in fairness they have been brilliant…only issues I had was the similar airbag light on my last SVR and a window regulator on the drivers window failed.. other than that they have been sublime…

Now on my second SVR and I do use them for daily business hence high miles.. love them!
Fuel usage is definitely higher than first gen SVR which surprised me but average 23-26 mpg which for a car of this size and speed is fairly exceptional. Now petrol is considerably cheaper than diesel it almost makes sense as well… cheaper to run an SVR than my D3!
Do it!
