Brake fluid leak after using IIDTool. Coincidence? | |
2011 RRS. I have a very bad rear passenger side brake fluid leak. I know it sounds crazy, but I am wondering if, somehow, IIDTool could have something to do with it? Here are the series of events:
1. Brakes seemed fine on drive to Costco.
2. In Costco lot, plugged in my IIDTool and tried to edit CCF to enable Second Press Chirp. Got “Failure message”.
3. Came out of Costco 30 mins later, turned car on, brakes felt fine, very stiff at the top like normal.
4. Connected IIDTool, tried again to edit CCF to enable second press chirp. It was successful.
5. After the standard on and off when editing CCF, dash gave me the notice to press brake and push start to start the ignition. As soon as I pressed the brake to begin the ignition process, I could feel the resistance was off.
6. Drove around parking lot for a bit then parked and waited. After 5 minutes, got “Brake Fluid Low” warning and there was a puddle of brake fluid at rear passenger tire.
7. Added fluid. Checked rear passenger tire - saw the fluid dripping out. Another puddle after 5 minutes.
Is this just a coincidence/bad timing, or could the CCF edit (or maybe the failure?) somehow screwed up my brakes?

Thanks guys - assumed it was pure coincidence, but just needed a sanity check to make sure.
And as for why Costco…great question. It was as simple as I parked my car, my IIDTool caught my eye and I remembered I was meaning to do that for quite some time. Looking back, not so bright!
