Brilliant, many thanks Land Rover USA. Only 10 years to figure out what RRS and LR4 owners have known for quite some time. Finally an official stateside recall - however my persistent petrol smell has been previously fixed by an Indy. Wonder what our friends at LR USA will do for me, and what have they done for you in the UK and elsewhere.

Certainly we have all purchased our Range Rover‘s for the stellar dealer customer service, and five star reliability track record!

Well after months of waiting for an appointment, expecting a perfunctory review of work done by my independent and confirming it’s quality and effectiveness, then hand me a check. Surprise, I must allow the stealer to perform their work (undoing the good work my local Indy performed a year ago) and then maybe have that reimbursed. Foolishness.

Let’s not make matters worse, try and be helpful to your customer - who’s already completed the recall fix - at a higher level of quality then probably would be performed by those that caused the issue in the first place. LRNA dealer customer service rating = 1* Vincit qui se vincit

Wow what a load of (BS) so now they say you have to have it pulled apart by JLR technicians (so called) to get a reimbursement.? How much would you get back?

It’s absurd. The indy labor cost was about 400, parts under 200. Probably not worth the dealer hassle, just happy to be done with the repair. Vincit qui se vincit

If the indi has done good repair and you are happy with it, personally I would just absorb the original cost as you have already spent so it's long gone. I think I would be inclined to leave it alone rather than risk the Dealer screwing it or something else up which isn't unknown.

Personally i would leave it as is ....it's fixed now and probably a hell of a lot better than if indy botched it!...got let it go

I would rather pay LR NOT to touch my vehicle than let one of their "technicians" anywhere near it. Bunch of incompetents, the lot of them.

One of the US car youtube mob had an LR dealership fit a winch to their new Defender. LR "technician" cut the wiring loom resulting in the car being, effectively, scrapped. Of course, this then becomes a story of poor reliability in many minds even though it was just straight forward incompetence. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The repair is done and dusted. No interest in letting the dealer undo it, apparently required to be reimbursed for the fix.
Land Rover North America confirmed this: to be reimbursed I must take it to the dealer to “have it assessed and repaired by trained Land Rover staff”. Isn’t that an oxymoron - like ‘jumbo shrimp’, or ‘pretty ugly’
