Extended Warranty

Hi All,

Looking to purchase extended warranty for a RRS 2014 SDV6 after the dealers has finished (3 Months) . Looking to using the dealers recommendation = Warranty Wise. They have proved to be the best for paying out according to them.
I have asked the question about the crank being covered and they have advised it would be the case. If the dealer gets the rate via themselves then I am hoping I have a bit more of a backup as its through the dealer.

Also hoping that I will have a little more security that its being purchased via HP via my bank.

Any thoughts welcome Smile

I once had a WW policy……..never again, I ended up paying to replace the engine in my first D3.

I now have a policy with the original warranty direct, I believe, from the few posts I’ve seen, the new version is ok as well.

Whatever you get, it MUST include wear and tear and I would check that they cover the crankshaft in writing. Joined the X5 45e club

Thanks Dave.

I think I saw you say that. Did they say why they didn’t pay out?

Warranty Direct is £3085 for a year! Which seems crazy.

Make sure it’s wear and tear and crankshaft. The dealer I’m dealing with highly recommended, so if I get from them that they will assist if the crank happened then I guess that’s the best I can do. ( in writing )
Also has to be over a certain amount because it’s probs a 10k + job to fix I assume.

You need to remember it’s an eight year old car, you don’t say the mileage, I would expect it to be expensive. I’d rather pay £3k with a company that pays out than £1.5k with one that doesn’t. Joined the X5 45e club

I have the warranty direct policy on my 2015 RRS. I am into my 2nd year. The first year was £950 and I made no claims. I am into 2nd year which was also £950 and is still active until next year and I have made 2 successful claims so far, 1 for the pinion seal which would cost around £800 and the 2nd for a soft close door actuator and lock and this would have cost around £700. I am expecting the renewal price to go up. Before I accepted the renewal for my 2nd year I put my details back into WD to see if I got any new customer discount and the cost was over £2000 so I bit their hand off at £950. JAS where I now take my car for any work dealt with all the warranty claims and they are authorized to also do the warranty work. The excess is £150 per claim. So far so good with WD. You get a print out of what’s covered with the policy and the cam shaft is on it so I can’t see how they can wriggle out of any genuine claim . The cam shaft issue is probably the only reason I got this warranty but so far so good on that .

Thanks John appreciate the detail response.

Yeah it’s the only reason I am opting for the warranty. Might give Warranty direct to see if they can offer a better price than the website states.

I know we hear of the stories but would be interesting to know the percentage. The best thing you can do is make sure it’s maintained well. Hopefully like yourself I won’t need to claim.

Will certainly let you know how I get on!

I’m not too sure on the % but I’m pretty sure it’s low or there would almost certainly be a factory recall ( or you would hope so) After reading many, many posts on here about the crank shaft snapping, Disco Mikey a mechanic on here mentioned that on all crank shaft snapped engines he has seen they have all been low on oil. Now I check my oil religiously, at least once a week and make sure it’s full on the scale. I actually check it when the engine is cold before I start it ( I know the hand book says do it when it’s warm) and it’s always to the top of the scale and never moves…..One big issue with these fantastic cars is that there is no low oil warning light only a low oil pressure warning light and once that comes on it’s too late. I have had this car now for 6 years and the 2 recent warranty claims are the only problems that I have had. I have no intentions of changing this car anytime soon but I don’t think I’ll be renewing the WD warranty next year if it goes up too much…..

Still have the LR warranty on my wife's MY16 RRS 3.0Diesel - dealer recently made a £5k claim for a power steering related issue (fluid leaks, etc).

I pay £150 per month (includes recovery) - as others say, I expect this to go up next year.

Yeah totally agree John, you would hope for a recall.

To be fair I am pretty good on the Oil front as I had a 1.4 TSI which were known for drinking oil and blowing up. But sold it on 130K miles. Also had an R8 which operate on a dry sump, so fingers crossed keep it maintained and regular checks.

Looking forward to picking up the RR tomorrow. Will give Warranty direct a call today!

I dont think I will opt for WD they were firm on the price for it. Going to see what the dealer has on the table and see if they can get the 100% in writing about covering the dreaded fault.

Don’t blame you. I wouldn’t pay £3k for a warranty either. I’m sure I applied online for the LR extended warranty and you input VIN number and mileage etc and they wouldn’t cover my vehicle for some strange reason hence why I went to WD. Probably because I didn’t take the extended warranty with them when the 3 years were up.

I have bought oil that’s recommended in the cars hand book. I’ll get you full details when I go in garage. The oil I bought is not even been opened as the car has never needed topping up. I bought it just in case it did. Like I say I check the oil level when cold and it’s always on the full level and every now and again I check when engine is warm and been left for 10 mins and again it’s always on the full level. I’m pretty certain that the oil level gauge only measures the level on the top half of the engine so as long as there is oil registered on the gauge between max and min I’m sure you will be ok.
