L494 New engine under warranty questions

A bit of a story here, so bear with me.
My L494 2.0, 2017, 38k mileage, started to chug and stall last week on a cold start up.
When i tried it again, it started and drove ok. The revs seemed to rise a fall a little but it drove ok. No warning lights etc. I wasn’t too worried as this was the first signs of it and it continued to drive without warnings.
I rang my local JLR dealer because it was under a one year L/R used car warranty but they couldn’t fit me in for another 3 weeks.
I decided to call my local LR specialist and they managed to fit me in.
Unbelievably they took a look at it and informed me that one of the turbos had gone, it was full of oil and the engine could be on its way. They advised me not to even drive it home.
I arranged for LR assistance to pick it up and take it back to my local dealer to look at.
Basically after an agonising wait of a week, to know what the diagnosis was and whether warranty would cover it, I was told yesterday that yes, a new engine was needed along with both turbos and yes, thank the lord, it was being covered by warranty.

I’m not altogether happy about keeping the car after the repair work. I’ve had battery problems, intermittent suspension warning lights, intermittent retractable side step issue and I’ve only owned it since Feb this year.
I’m going to have to take a big hit on it but I was wondering what my position was with selling it with a new engine in.
Does anybody know if I have to inform DVLA. Does it lower the value of the car or does it increase it? I think I would be put off buying a car with a new engine and turbos but that’s just me.
Do I have to disclose it to a new buyer, whether that be private sale or trade.

All advise is appreciated

Get the engine number changed on the V5.

You don’t have to tell anyone any more than you would tell them that the tyres / clutch / brakes / rear arm rest had been changed - tell them if they ask, but otherwise don’t. It’s just another part, not as if it’s a bodged used part either. If you had high mileage it could increase the value. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

First off lucky boy on that being covered by the warranty, maybe get yourself a lottery ticket, if it was me and I was selling to a dealer I would just let it go , if it was a private sale I would inform them that it’s had a new engine.

Personally, I would be happy to buy a car with a new engine, turbos etc rather than one with 37k on it. What's not to like.
It's not as though its a reconditioned engine from Bodgeit Autos Big Cry . Its a factory engine with warranty Thumbs Up

I’ll be trading it in against so I may just take a chance and sell it as it is when I get it back. I think if I was selling it privately, I would apply for a new log book.
My wife has just had enough of it to be honest. It’s always had problems and stranded her when she’s driven it and this is the final nail in its coffin.
Im still not sure if they’ve got to the bottom of the battery drain problem. It just randomly would bleed the battery dry and leave her stranded. Two new batteries, which aren’t covered by warranty and it’s been in twice overnight for drainage checks and nothing shows up. Completely random.
Probably just bad luck but we’ve never had so much trouble with a car in our lives.
It has put us off JLR though.

Did you use the LR dealer for the other issues (only using the specialist this time because you had to)? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

For the battery issues because I knew they weren’t covered by warranty, I took it to the LR specialist. Other niggles, side steps, suspension Inchcape LR.

No, my dealer told me point blank that if it was a battery it would be treated as wear and tear and not covered. It was 5 years old and probably needed changing anyway. They couldn’t see it for 4 weeks anyway so I took it to my local specialist. Wasn’t a problem...

I had battery problems, normally "low battery start car". Pointless taking it to Land Rover. They probably just left it overnight to see if it discharged. I took it to an Auto Electrician who found a parasitic drain. He had it for the best part of a week as he had to try something, let the car go to sleep & see if that was it. Obviously, a time-consuming process, but not as expensive as it would seem for someone to have the car for a week, as when he was waiting for something to show up, he was working on other vehicles. Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

Mine was never a low battery warning, I wish it was. It was just completely dead. Nothing. Not even enough for the electric locks to work.
My wife would drive it to work, leave it for 9 hours and when she got back to it, dead. But it would only do it maybe once every 3 months. Even in summer with no light, no aircon etc. The only thing I thought may have caused it was the retractable side steps.
Occasionally the passenger side would stick out without her knowing. I dont know if it was my imagination but when it started to stick, that was when we seemed to get the problem. I would grease the mech and it would work again, sliding in and out fine. For a month now, ive run it with the side steps in and not moving and its been fine but the garage says they cant find anything wrong with it and they dont think that would cause it. I left it with them for a few days for them to check battery drainage and nothing shows up.
A mystery and I really dont want to feel my wife’s wrath any more. She’s lost all confidence in it as you can imagine. Not great being stranded and now this with the engine and turbos. Its going when we get it back unfortunately.

I would be hacked off with that as well, before I brought my sport I was looking at various similar vehicles, I’ve had a lot of Range Rovers in the past some good some not so good, the biggest problem I found was finding something with a petrol Engine , I can’t go through Diesel DPF problems again on short journeys, the choice is very limited unless you go for for a normal type car.

Just a bit of an update on this and advice needed.

Having been told that the warranty company that Land Rover use were swapping my engine and turbos. I’ve had an update. The engine they are fitting is actually a reconditioned one. They are still waiting on the engine and have no ETA that they can give me. I have expressed my dissatisfaction that it is actually a reconditioned engine and not a new one and have argued that I can’t believe that L/R would actually agree to this. The service manager has tried to argue my case with warranty about paying for a new one because it would be available quicker too. I have been given a hire car from enterprise paid for by warranty.

The question is, am I being unreasonable. Should I just be happy that they are doing the repairs for free under warranty and just suck it up. I’m half thinking that because I have dodged a massive bullet.
I’m just not sure what to think. I just find it odd that LR would fit a recon engine. Has anybody every heard of a main dealer doing this.
I’m pretty sure if I had gone to LR with a faulty engine and asked them to source me a recon engine and fit it for me they would probably have laughed at me and told me they only fit new parts.

Anyway, all opinions and advice welcomed.

A JLR recon is built to the same standards as a brand new one. You won't have any issues* Thumbs Up

*As long as it comes from JLR Thumbs Up

EDIT: Just seen its a 2.0. Usually they come as a brand new bottom end with a recon head
