The capacity I was quoting was a guess of usable capacity give or take (it is quoted somewhere) but with a night tariff it’s a lot cheaper. Also worth downloading one of the EV charger location app (I have zap map) you can then find the free charging points. I will regularly use the nation trust and Tesco charges, which are all free (7kwh)

Be really intrigued to see what the real world mpg is on a full tank and single charge. I was told that it uses your sat nav to work out how much battery to deploy so that it last the entire journey. Wether that’s true or not I don’t know.

Night tariff not available to me sadly, but have signed up to alerts, to tell me when it is. We have another fully electric car, so night tariff would be ideal for us. I looked at Octopus, but the day rate is much higher making it not worthwhile at the moment.

I have run a couple of journeys recently on HYBRID mode of around 20 miles and the mpg has been around 67mpg on my journey last night. Slightly misleading of course as you are using electric battery in that process.

I am going to run a long motorway journey on the weekend, so that will be interesting, the battery will run out on the way there, so will be interesting to see what MPG is returned on the way back. I am expecting low 20s! But who knows, could be surprised!

A lot of people are going to get a shock when it comes time to renew electricity deal. Wont be many cheap options available.

Most if not all do overnight tariff. I get 4 hours at 9.4p per kWh (as opposed to 38.8p). Works out approx 6p per mile and also charge the house battery up on that rate over the winter months when the solars are struggling.

Get a decent solar array and it’s free 6-7 months of the year.

I tried to switch to Octopus, but their day rate they are quoting on their website is higher than the cap.

Maybe I should call them to ask for further detail?

Intrigued about the results of this, what sort of mpg did you achieve with no battery left?

I have only done one journey so far on a motorway, just over 50 miles it returned 31.4 with a little spirited driving out of the town.

31 is pretty good - better than I feared. More good news this week - benefit in kind only going up 1% pa from 2025 then another a year later then another. But that’s the same for all vehicles and could have been much worse

Done 100 miles this week in a RRS D350 .
Couldn’t believe the 27.5 mpg .
Surely a Diesel should do more !!!
Currently getting 37mpg out of a new defender D250

That’s normal mpg for the 350, I’m only getting a bit more than that with my current D300
