Instrument cluster failure and limp mode | |
Another week, yet another breakdown! RRS, 2009, L320, 3.6 TDV8.
On Friday evening went to turn on the engine to get home and the green part of the dash came up all pixelated. Had no choice but to continue, then dash back to normal and then completely black, then back on but with pixels all over the place.
The following day, everything seemed to be okay, when the instrument panel again went dead, back on again, and then the engine went into limp mode, max 50khm but without warning s or " engine system fault" Pulled over, turned the car on and off several times and it seemed to be okay and managed to get home. The same thing happened again this afternoon, dash and instrument panels on and then off, and basically all over the shop floor but this time limp mode down to 20 kmh.
Now the vehicle sat in front of the house. I will reset the ECU and see if this helps in any way. I will also test the battery and connections but the battery seems okay.
I am assuming the instrument panel cluster has failed as I had read that this is yet another common failure point.
But not sure why the vehicle went into limp mode
Has anyone had similar shenanigans with the RRS?
Last week the intercooler hose failed on the motorway and went into limp mode. That was repaired and now this electrical nonsense. Diff also needs replacing.
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the info. It's currently at the LR dealership and they are taking a look. If as suspected, it's a dry joint cluster problem, they will send it for testing and repair by an instrument panel specialist. Finger's crossed.
