No expert has this correct. ZF box. My Jag did this a lot until I learnt to either stop as straight as possible if braking hard to allow 1st to be selected or carry enough speed to keep box in 2nd. Carried same principle in my RRS and don,t suffer the lag |

I think the second gear from stand still, is an 8 speed box thing, in D mine does it. |

My gut feeling is that my 3.6 diesel (6 speed) is programmed to start in 2nd and only moves to 1st if I encourage it to go forward quickly. It is quite happy to move off in 2nd (even when stationary) but then realises from the throttle level that I want to go off a bit quicker and so selects 1st. Hence the lag. But there is no science behind my belief, only guesswork and feel. Robin

I've dropped mine in to command shift and watched it drop to 2nd when creaping if I pop it down in 1st it goes straight back to second |
