L320 2012 Windscreen cowl seal

Hi all,

Hope your all well.

Just had my cracked windscreen replaced by my insurance company, but i wasn't able to be there after the install to check it. As the car is ten years old they would not allow me to have LR genuine screen. So they replaced the original LR pilkington screen with saint-goblin sekurit. I've googled saint-goblin sekurit screens and LR did use them for there original screens. It also has illustrations of an ear and heated. So i'm sure it's pretty much as good as the original.

My two questions are:

1. The cowl seal wasn't 100% perfectly tight to the windscreen all the way across previously has the cowl is quite old looking and very faded. But since they put the new screen in. There is at least two large areas where the cowl isn't tight to the screen now please see images. Is this an issue to allow water down below the cowl seal?

2. There have also annoyingly put one the windscreen wiper arms back on way higher. So it now sits above the black band and you can now see it when driving. I'm guessing this is a super simple fix to do my self and put it back on at lower angle on the splines?

Thanks so much to anyone can help me with this. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

wiper arm is easy fix, take off & refix in new position. the cowls are never flush unless brand new, they start buckling/lifting ( after fitting a new one ) about 2 years of use from my experience.
only permanent fix is to use sikaflex & stick it down, but then it is difficult to remove if access is needed.

As they had to remove the scuttle panel to replace the screen, it might be worth checking if they broke any off the plastic retaining clips and never bothered replacing them, if it is original and the clips are 10 years old they are probably quite brittle so easily done.

Cheers
Col

Thanks for replying kas982, ok good to know. Will sort wiper arm myself asap. And thanks Col, have tried pushing down on the cowl all the way across and it doesn't seem to move. But maybe when i have more time i might remove the cowl as i would quite like to try and treat it to see if i can get back to darker grey, so i will take a closer look at the retaining clips at the same time and order new if they are causing the issue.

Thanks again both for the help. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

Is it important the seal is a tight fit on the passenger side, otherwise water can enter the cabin through the pollen filter air duct.

There is a mod you can do with a plastic milk bottle to shield the air intake. If you are taking the wiper arms off it's worth doing that.

RRS Stuck wind screen wiper arm

Thanks Andy K, great tip, i will definitely read through this and might try his if i can't get the cowl to seal properly. My first issue is, i can't even get the bl**dy wiper arm off. I'll buy some proper penetrating oil asap, but i just used WD-40 for now. The nut came off easy but the arm is stuck solid which is strange seeing they obviously just took it off, you'd think it would come off super easy if its just been off. If you have any great tips how to get the arm off please let me know otherwise i'll start looking thought treads on here and you tubing and / or poss think about investing into a wiper arm puller as my interior trim panel removers are not strong enough to prise it off.

Thanks again for help 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

They aren’t easy to remove on RRS.

Puller required I guess

Otherwise leave the nut slightly on the end, and use pipe grips at the side to try and get um off the spline
