SDV6 3.0 engine reliability

As someone seriously looking into the purchase of a used RRS (around 2015/2016), I am looking into the background of the 3.0 V6 engine failures (engine crank shaft failure). Can anyone with some knowledge of these failures fill me in on a couple of questions

- how common is it, is it more specific to either the TDV6 or the SDV6 and are there specific model years in which the problem was more apparent.

- is there any background into the possible causes (ie I have heard inadequate servicing, incorrect oils, contaminated DPFs etc etc)

- did LR introduce any specific changes to the engine design to counteract the problem

Many thanks for any advice you can share

Anthony

England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Not specific to any year.
How to Avoid isn't known.
No fixes introduced to UK models

Get a good warranty and read the small print

If you do below average miles a year, have a think about the V6 petrol, I would. That being said, I don't know personally if they have any design weakness. There aren't that many about compared to the diesel, and I haven't read any issues on here.
If you do higher mileage, and longish trips, the DPF should remain clear reducing oil dilution due to frequent/incomplete regens.
A lot of warranty companies will exclude the crank as it's a known manufacturing defect. As has been said, read the small print and get written confirmation of cover.
Good luck.

Had the sam dilemma, in the end I brought the Petrol supercharged, I can’t put up with these DPF , I do more short journeys than long and I have had trouble with DPF on every Diesel I have owned.
