Brembo Refurb - Issues with Refit L494 Range Rover Sport

Hi all,

So I manage to strip the front and rear callipers, change the discs and pads while they were off. The are the red 6 pot on the front type.

I’m having a couple of issues. The back driver side piston will not retreat back so cannot be fitted over the new, thicker pads.

I have the tool to wind it back in but it just is rock solid. I’ve also had the car in the brake servicing mode.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Perhaps I need to get it to an indie to get it plugged in and the pistons retracted?

Thank you

Craig

What way are you winding it back ? Clockwise or Anti Clockwise
Whatever way you are trying - try it the other way Thumbs Up

Hello pal, ok…so I got that part sorted.

The caliper piston was full of crud. Cleaned them out and it went back fine.

Next issue, do I need any coding for the ABS to get the pressure back into the system. I used a bottle that pushed the brake fluid into the brake and eventually back up to the fuild tank. Problem not is the brakes are so spongey and don’t work?

Again, any advice would be very much appreciated 🙂

Aww really, sound nothing fancy then…everyone is saying I need all kinds of tools and codes, do the caliper in a certain order etc. so did you just let them drain wheel by wheel and keep topping the tank up?

My understanding is that providing air doesn't get into the ABS block, just keep fluid in the reservoir and bleed as normal. If it's all drained out, then in common with all modern systems you will need a diagnostic tool to bleed the system.
Start with the calliper furthest from the master cylinder and end with the closest.

Much appreciated, fingers crossed air didn’t get in the block and I’ll try a full bleed tomorrow. Thanks for the advice all.

Regards

Craig

On my L320 I just installed Brembo 4 piston calipers I completely stripped and rebuilt as well as Brembo pads and rotors, completely stripped and rebuilt my rear calipers and installed Brembo pads as well as changed the brake fluid (Brembo DOT 4 LV). I screwed up and one of my rears went dry while gravity draining it. Topped up, vacuum pumped it, gravity bled and the brake pedal felt like garbage. Drove it the next day and everything bed in and pedal is back to normal. Well, the pedal feels better with the Brembo calipers, so I guess better than normal. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
