Just sold my 2018 RRS 🤔

I am trying to reconcile in my head the sale of my 2018 autobiography dynamic diesel RRS, it was my third 2018, first one was a p400e which I rejected, second one p400e which I kept all through 2020 but sold due to reliability issues and poor ev range third one I sold today due to again reliability issues with just 25k miles from new.
I have had two of the original RRS one a 2.7 and the other a 3.0 both diesel, I did over a 100k in each and apart from tyres and servicing they needed nothing.
I am now flirting with searching out a nice 3.0 diesel L320, I always preferred the overall size being smaller than the later cars and they were just so much more reliable.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I'd suggest a nice L320 TDV8 if you're going back to an older RRS. The best diesel they fitted to the L320. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

I would second a L320 TDV8 as long as it was a 2010 model. I drove a new 2009 model when they had the petrol 4.4l and it was a dog of an engine compared to the 4.4l petrol. I knew they were bringing a 5l petrol version out shortly and decided to wait for this. When they did you could not get a 5l petrol with dynamic response (a must have) even though the base diesel could be specified with it - what gives.
My local dealer had a new 2010 TDV8 in stock with high specification. They persuaded me to test drive it - what a difference between the 2009 model and the 2010 model. Almost 12 later I still have it. My fuel consumption averages 13l/100km in stop start traffic which is all it does and costs nothing to run other than oil changes and occasional service items.

How odd. The TDV8 was the same engine in 2009 and 2010 and used the same gearbox. Compared to the 4.4 petrol, the TDV8 had about 25-30bhp less but, of course, much more low down grunt (being a diesel). Not sure why you found the 2009 to be a dog other than you were comparing it to an engine with 30bhp more.

Of course, the 2010 will have the updated interior although I don't actually see that as a selling point having had both the original interior and the facelifted one (in my 2012). The later interior looks nicer, I suppose, but is definitely not as well made or well detailed. It feels a bit cheap in places. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The 4.4l V8 petrol was much smoother than the TDV8 (and a lot more refined) and had a much more linear power delivery - I could not have lived with the TDV8 in the 2009 model. The 2010 TDV8 was a lot more refined than the 2009 that I drove - enough that I could live with it. I have driven the Discovery with the 4.4l petrol V8 for quite a while and over a similar distance it was more economical than the range Rover with the TDV8. The Range Rover with the naturally aspirated V8 (275kW) would have been the pick of the bunch - but no dynamic response.

Odd. The 2009 and 2010 were the same engine and drivetrain so there should be no difference between them. The 2010 might have had the electronic dampers (dynamic programme on Terrain Response) which the older one didn't, but both had the Dynamic Response active anti roll bars.

The TDV8 was brought in to replace the N/A 4.4 V8 petrol precisely because the petrol was lousy on fuel and not really any sportier.

I wonder if the 2009 version you tried was a lemon or whether the specs were different between UK and Aus. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
