I do recall reading something about using the Gap diag tool if you have one, to prime the fuel pump and injectors on the petrol engines to clear air from system and prime with fuel, I don't know if this would be relevant and need to be done if you had only ran out of petrol, or only if you had actually replaced a components, may be dependant on if you ran the system completely dry or not.

Thanks Col. I don't have a diag tool, though I have been following various advice to purge the air from the fuel line without success.

Not sure may be behind the driver side front footwell panel but only a guess as picture may not even be a sport might be thinking of my old P38. W/shop manual does refers to it but doesn't actually show where it is located, or any procedure for resetting either pressing it or via the ignition/throttle pedal that I can see, although it does on my keyless start facelift s/c.
