What is it and where should this go please?

Hi

2010 3.6 TDV8

Can anyone tell me what this should be connected to please?

It was loose just under the metal cover by the dipstick.

It looks like it may be vacumn pipe, but I can't see where it should go.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

OK, panic over, because it was tucked under a cover, I thought it needed to be there, but it appears it should have gone onto the air box.

Cheers

Dave

I think it's a vacuum link between the airbox and the port deactivation switch. Basically, when the TDV8 is at low revs, one set of inlet ports are deactivated by closing off the incoming air (easier than having variable valve timing). The TDV8 has a swirl inlet and a filling inlet and only the swirl inlet is used at low revs. The filling inlet then comes in to, well, fill the cylinder as revs rise.

Someone will probably be along soon to say I'm wrong and explain what the pipe actually does. Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

Edit: Just checked the manual and it is indeed the link pipe for the port deactivation. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Very interesting, thanks very much.
Knowing what it does and why is a bonus.
Main dealer (predominately Jaguar) serviced and although I hadn't noticed any downside to it being 'off', it appeared to have been tucked out of the way and was only apparent when I removed the engine cover.
Thanks again.

Dave

Find a decent indy to work on your RRS. The dealer network are rubbish and will likely cause you problems. No, that's unfair. They WILL cause you problems.

Your misplaced pipe was probably tucked out of the way when doing another job and forgotten about. No harm done other than possibly a few more emissions than would be expected. But it's symptomatic of dealership mechanics' lack of care, I'm afraid.

I had a whole list of issues with my first RRS when it was serviced by a main dealer. Started using an indy and it was like it was a different vehicle. Whereas I was constantly going back to the dealer to get stuff done, once at the indy it just got serviced and had the usual things looked at as they wore out. Am looking for one, found one not too far away, but they wanted more than the dealer for a service, so needless to say will not be going back.

Have it booked in for a 4 wheel alignment at the same dealer, but a different site, who only do Land/Range Rovers, so expect it to be done right.

Appreciate your time.

Dave

An indy charging more than a main dealer is not, I suggest, a good indy... Whistle

How someone can charge more than a main dealer without the main dealer overheads is beyond me. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

This has been my experience too. Not only with my RRS but also the Jag before it. Since I've found a really good indy the car has behaved very well. Its service in March this year was its first visit to a garage since the service the previous year. That was unheard of when it was services by the main dealer. I know, that's put the kiss of death on it now Confused .

Not sure where you are in West Sussex and so perhaps a trip to Heathfield in East Sussex is too far, but I can recommend Groombridges as a fantastic Indy for LR products. Robin

Thanks, I'll add them to my list of garages to visit.

Got a few to 'view' nearer, but always need options.

Just to add, they do provide a courtesy car if necessary at no extra charge (often a disco with 180,000 miles on it but totally suitable for getting around whilst your RRS is with them)! Robin

I know it's been a long time, but the pipe in question has now perished.

It has the following number on it, 6H3Q-9U463-AC

I cannot find any link to any item with that number, or the pipe description.

Has anyone got an LR part number please?

Thanks

As ever RRSTDV8, you are both spot on, and a star.
