Coming Back - Looking For Late L320

Evening,

Not new to the forum as I joined many years ago having lusted after a RRS since they first came out, realising I now need another!

Back in 2020 I made it happen and was lucky enough to pick up this beautiful forum owned car -

Absolutely loved the experience and the car was simply beautiful, it was such a well cared for car and the seller was a pleasure to deal with. My needs changed and I moved to an L200 Barbrian which was a great fit at the time and did a lot of what we needed, house reno project, horse ownership etc. -

This years sees a (fairly) big birthday for me so I ticked another box and last year bought myself a Porsche 911 -

Yes its a 997.1, yes its a convertible and 'only' a 3.6 but do you know what its amazing, even just a trip to the shops feels special. So next month 8 of us are driving down to watch the Le Mans 24h to celebrate my birthday hence the Porsche was bought with that trip in mind, once we return it will be up for sale and out of the door if I can bring myself to sell it!

Hoping to replace it with another RRS, looking at a late 2012 L320 Autobiography Sport/Lux/Black Edition in SDV6 form.

Also we will be pulling a horse box in muddy fields, I am right in thinking that all L320 had a low range option didn’t they? The L494 I know it became an option (weird!) but I am sure all the L320 had it as standard.

Also I saw a lovely Baltic blue car which was late plate and low miles and was ‘franchise approved’ on AT which I assumed meant it was an Approved Used LR car. However that has since sold but when looking on the Approved Used website they don’t seem to show any L320 models they are all newer ones??? I take it there will still be a few offered through dealer network that are late and low miles for them to be retailed but how do you search for them?!?

Thanks in advance, everyone was super helpful in my last quest to buy.

Correct. All L320 have low range. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

So I am successfully back, looked at a few examples before I bought this - so many seem to have AB kit these days and whilst I think it suits the RRS for me it wasn't practical (fields, off road paddocks etc.) then I had to wade through several which claimed to have a full service history but when I turned up it was a handful of bills or just a stamped service book which anyone could have bought on eBay and filled in.

In the end I settled on this a 2012 HSE SDV6 in Fierenze Red which is one of my favourite colours although appreciate its a bit marmite although after Nara Bronze its positively mainstream! Its covered 89,000 miles with a great history and unfortunately for the last owner some big bills from Land Rover which hopefully paves a smooth path for me.....Its just had a service, new bottom arms and droplinks and a full set of matching rubber all round plus a new MOT with no adviories.

Specwise its good Harmon Kardon, fridge, webasto, tv, LR towbar so all the key things I was looking for, interior I wanted black from a practicality perspective.

It wants a good clean and the letters on the bonnet and boot want refreshing, also I noticed a low speed squeak in supermarket over a couple of speed bumps, on the move over bumps its silent so wonder whether its the new bushes in the bottom arms perhaps need a bit of grease?? I need to source some rubber LR mats and a boot mat but other than that I am super pleased. Cruised home on the M5 and with a bit of B road at the end of my journey to get home saw a pleasant 33mpg.

Hey welcome back Si, there’s still a few familiar names on here. Your chosen car is a lovely colour and that car certainly looks a nice standard example.

Keep us updated. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Thanks Steve, it’s good to be back! I loved the 911 experience but ended up using it daily which it was quite tiring doing come the end, incredible car though and totally ‘get’ the Porsche thing.

The RRS is lovely, need to sort squeak out as it sounds a bit low rent but I think it’s just a dry bush……lol! Really happy with it, going to refresh the badges, add my own plate and that’s probably it I think.
