Hello Electronic geniuses!

So my stunning RRS has developed an interesting fault with the media system. So first of all the background. Bought the car over the weekend and drove it home (2.5hr trip) the media system was perfect, had my Bluetooth dongle in the iPod connector and the system sounded awesome. Got up the next day and took the car for a wash, got back in the media system started to go crazy. So here are the symptoms

1. Popping and cracking sounds
2. When the above happens there is no sound at all from the speakers
3. When the above happens the icons for radio, aux, CD etc, grey out and come back on (sort of flashing on and off all over the place).
4. When the above happens I can’t control anything on the media no button press (touchscreen or physical button) works.

It will do this for 30secs then come back to life and the sound comes back on, it’s intermittent and has no timing that I can see to it. Any ideas what I have done?

sounds like water has got into the electronics ...check for water ingress..

Thanks for the reply. I’ve had the scanner on it and there is 5 fault codes with the dab module and 1 fault code on the APIM module. All start with u3000- and all say general module. I don’t even know where the modules are located. I have just tried the hard rest by removing the pos and neg terminals of the battery, waiting 20mins then touching the terminals of the cables to together before refitting to the battery but I still have the same faults. Anyone know where the modules are located in the car?

I asked my wife to take it to the local garage for a battery test. The read out is in the photo below. The test recommends to change the battery. Lots of threads on here concern the battery. What should a “good battery” be giving out? And could the carwash have been just a coincidence?

Good shout! It’s got to be cheaper than getting a new battery, so frustrating it’s just happened as a finished washing the car. Could it be the fault? Or is it just coincidence the infotainment system decided to play up at the same time.

These vehicles can be quite sensitive to battery condition and general voltages through the system. It's amazing how something seemingly unconnected can cause problems. For example, I have a small USB device plugged in to the USB socket in the arm rest. Every now and then I find the car throwing up strange errors or the ICE system plays up. Unplug the USB and all is OK again. Leave it a while and plug it back in and it's still all fine. Until the next time - which is usually months away.

As I say, they do funny things.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Interesting. I connected a Bovee 1000 into the iPod connection in the armrest and I have kinda left it in there when I start and stop the car. I wonder if that could be a issue? I read the codes again last night and the dabm comes back with 7 faults, General module and antenna bands faulty.

I will try removing the bovee 1000 connection and restarting the RRS, clearing the fault codes and going again. I have ordered a workshop manual to remove the antenna to see if my jet washing has caused water ingress. I looked inside the side compartment in the boot and I can’t see any water or dampness in general. So I’m hoping it’s a combination of jet washing and the aftermarket Bluetooth dongle being connected. If I find anything I will post back with photos if possible.

Hello all. Short update. The fully charged battery did not solve the fault. I ran the diagnostic tool again and the dab module has several fault codes for L band antenna and band 3 antenna which are intermittent and two that are permanent which just say control module. They are U3000 codes and the antenna faults are B codes. So I’m thinking it’s got to be the antenna on the roof which is the L band and sat nav antenna, plus the dab module potentially.

Any ideas if these need to be coded? There’s lots about on eBay as used items.

I’m not that familiar with the facelift models, however the DAB models can be trouble some.

Basically you disconnect the orange optical loop at the dab module, and fit a bypass loop like this: to the orange cables
You could also disconnect power to the dab

Obviously you won’t have DAB, but if things are better and you get some music it points the finger at the dab unit

On prefacelift models the amps give problems

You could try disabling the DAB radio via the CCF files, whether that would actually prove anything though I wouldn't know, but it might give you a clue of some sort.
