I see that LR dealers are offering a winter service for £299. My new (to me) RRS is overdue a service - I usually prefer going to indies, but wondered if this was a good deal.

Depending where you are in Scotland their is a few good indie garages I would prefer to use,One being in Dundee Disco_Mikey who is on here & knows these vehicles inside out,I wouldn’t trust a dealer to do all they say, like the brake fluid for one, they probably probe the fluid & test for moisture & if it’s ok,I cannot see them changing it.

Ok, thanks Andy. I’m in Edinburgh and have used an indie here before when I had a Freelander a few years ago |

Dealer use these "offers" as a way to get you in the door, and find many £'000s of repairs |

How is any of that a "safety check"? Yes, having a full battery and full screen wash is good, but I doubt they put the battery on charge for you. And the screen wash top up is pence to do. In fact, I bet they chuck a volt meter on the battery and then say "it's in poor state of charge so you need a new battery for many, many pounds". A wash and vac is a "safety check"? Wow, didn't know that clean carpets makes a car safer. Who knew? Software updates should be part of the service anyway, not part of a "safety check". Why aren't they doing it routinely in the service? Robbing bastards. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

RRSTDV8 I once took mine in for service at LR dealer & they tried charging around £3.50 for filling washer bottle,,when I told them I filled it at home before I left & haven’t used washers while traveling there they didn’t know what to say.
