Parking brake

On my previous 2017 discovery sport when I put the car into park the parking brake was applied automatically but this does not happen in my 2015 RRS ab should it or not?
I have read that some people do not use the parking brake as they can lock on is this correct and is it same not too apply it?

My 2014.5 L494 doesn't engage automatically, but my 2013 Evoque does. Kind of a backwards step in my mind!

The sticking parking brake applies to the L320 as this has a drum based parking brake system whereas the L494 has a caliper based system and hence is not susceptible to the L320 problem.

The park bake can be set to apply automatically on the L320 via the CCF file setting, so would imagine can do same thing with the L494.
