Track rod end - ball joint splitter/separator

I'm trying to replace the oil seal on the off side driveshaft - got most stuff undone to be able to pull it out aside from the wretched track rod end ball joint.

Have tried giving it a clout with a hammer (with a nut left on the threads) and it will not budge.

Have now tried two ball joint splitters from Halfords. The cup type is too small and the scissor type won't open wide enough to do the business.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable splitter/separator or am I better off just getting the angle grinder out to try and "adapt" the Halfords scissor one?

Cheers

What we quite often did on heavy trucks was lever down with a bar between the end of the track rod and axle and give the the bit the track rod taper fits into on the stub axle a good wack with a lump hammer more often than not worked, leave the nut on a few threads though if it does move suddenly you might headbutt the car if applying a lot of weight to the bar. Only a suggestion but might work.

Cheers

The clout with a 4lb lump hammer worked for me, one track rod end was stubborn so I used my old fork type splitter on that. The problem is the threaded studs are so long most splitters won’t fit. Steve

Now resolved with a hefty further clout of the hammer and it popped out. Cheers all
