An L494 in it's natural habitat - Skye + Glencoe

Hope this works.

I have enjoyed my 1st 3,000 miles in my new luxury tank and posted this in a thread 2 weeks ago.

Now back in sunny Glasgow after a 2 week tour up the A9 to Aviemore, along the A86 to Ft William, over the bridge and then all over Skye. Huge (and magnificent) Island that takes 90 minutes end to end (at a decent pace). Return journey was via Ft William with a 3 night stop over in Kinshouse Hotel Glencoe then a quick dash down the A82 past Loch Lomond and Home.

This car was built for journeys like this and I enjoyed every comfortable mile.

To my wee list of minor niggles - I would add that the intermittent wipers are 100% useless. I have given up and coated windscreen with Rain X to reduce the need for manual wipes. How can every manufacturer master a "rain sensor wiper" - except LR....?

Anyway - didn't happen if no photos (and we all like photos)

1st picture is the SKYFALL layby (if it is good enough for Dame Judy and James Bond it will do for me). Glen Etive - next to Glencoe. Well worth the effort

Some general Holiday snaps (not sure if the forum can handle iPhone panoramic shots - lets find out)

The new (and only) Distillery on the Island of Raasay (Population 161). Number of bottles of Whisky on the island - depleted by 2.

And Lastly Glencoe from Kinshouse hotel Car Park - showing the Buachaille Etive Mor at 956m (3,136) it is "just a wee one" but sadly no road to the top.

Hope somebody enjoyed the foaties...!

Fantastic, i did a similar trip in September last year from Home (Cotswolds) to Skye, via Braemar, Cairngorms, Aviemore, Skye, Mallaig, Fort William, Glencoe, Loch Lomond, Glasgow and home.

It was fantastic and looking forward to doing it again soon!

Your pictures look great! Now

Great pictures. I used to love the A9 from Perth to Inverness before the cameras went in. Fantastic sweeping bends and fairly quiet most of the time. And as it was work related, I got paid as well! Happy days. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Glad to hear of people enjoying their cars in Sunny Scotland.
I know what you mean about the A9 Grimble.

I am doing Glasgow to Inverness tomorrow for work. Strangely i find the journey more relaxing with the speed cameras as you don’t have to keep looking in your mirror for delivery vans and Vauxhall Corsas trying to overtake 6 cars round bends. Might be an age thing.

Cheers

It is tremendous scenery so close to home.

About your wipers, mine were awful until I changed the blades, even though it didn’t look like they needed changing. Joined the X5 45e club

Yes it is the newly upgraded Kingshouse Gerrymac.
Very nice inside and great staff too.

My blades are wiping fine - it is the intermittent wipe that has a mind of its own.
no logic to it at all - within a few minutes (so same rain on sensor) The wipers can be banging away at double speed. switch of and back on and ....... nothing.

But most time it senses so much as a wee drip and they come on full speed and stay like that.

Reading this board it sounds like a very common complaint. Next time it is in the dealership i will ask them to change or adjust the sensor - but for now i am using Rain-x and wiping manual flicks.

All my cars to date have managed to have “auto sensor and intermittent” working perfectly - but not LR so far.

Mine were wiping fine but erratic, a change of blades and they were fine. It was the same on my D4 as well, they ge5 to a certain point then interfere somehow, no logic to it but it worked. I don’t believe you can adjust the module Joined the X5 45e club

sorry to dredge up an old thread - but wanted to say i have solved my intermittent wiper issue.

New blades did clear screen better but made no difference to erratic wiping.

however, i found a setting in the steering wheel menu that had been toggled to “rain sensor” (something like that) and when i toggled this off ............. hey presto - the rotary control for wipers works fine.

i can vary rate of wipes using the rotary knob - and i still think the sensor does vary speed when needed.
There must be two control systems that were fighting each other - which is exactly what it felt like.

What blades are people using? Genuine LR or Bosch or something else?

I generally use Bosch wipers. Bought a front pair last week from Halfords. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just ordered some Bosch Aerotwins off eBay which were a bit of a ballache to get hold of locally. A twin pack was £21 whilst LR wanted £59 quid for the pleasure of it - a bit of a no brainer really.
