Oil dilution

I know this has been asked a thousand times but just after a simple answer please, if I buy a 2015 RRS (newer style) with the 3.0 Diesel engine (302 bhp) and do mainly short trips of 10 miles each way and not motorway journeys am I going to suffer dpf and oil dilution problems?

I have just put down a refundable deposit on a 2015 autobiography dynamic with 69,000 on the clock and I am trading in a discovery sport with the 2.0 engine because of the dpf issues it’s know for and that I have suffered but I didn’t realise the 3.0ltr engine also suffers with this so am I jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, rather know now as I can cancel the deposit today before we travel to view

I am happy to take it for a 40 minute blast at 50-60 mph once a week if this would counteract the issues and 8 will also tow our caravan but only 5 or 6 times a year

Cheers,

Hi,

its not really a Yes or No answer Confused but more of a Probably, the shorter your journeys the more likely and 10 miles does not get everything up to operating temp (yes water temp is at normal)
also
some vehicles seem to suffer more than others many on here have to do regular adblue top ups we never put any in other than annual service (not really short trips either)

although if your willing to do the good run for the RRS why not do it for the DS Question

if you want to change vehicle go for it

10 miles each way trips I have heard electric cars are catching on Shocked personally I like big petrol ones Cool

It does not have a tow bar but I have asked if it has the electrical towing preparation which I am lead to believe means the wiring is in place ready for connecting, maybe you can help answer this and tell me what we will need to have done when I get the RRS booked in for the tow bar
Thanks,

Hi,

have a go with the "Orange" search button in the title bar and search for Electric towbar or deployable towbar as there have been a few threads about it

but

short answer is the rear sub frame/cross bar needs changing not the same as the earlier model that had the receiver already
round figures for Dealer costs are electric £2000 plus fitting Tyrefitter has posted pics of his rear end Shocked Shocked
approaching £1000 for removable type not at main dealer.

Try to get it as part of the deal if car is at a main dealer as we had our removable towbar fitted as part of the purchase deal for the cost of the parts only they fitted free (ish Laughing ) about £800 istr

To be honest if your only doing 10 miles each way daily have you not considered a 5.0 sc,,the engines in those are bullit proof.
Here is a pic of where the deployable Towbar fits.you have to remove the rear crash bar & Towbar goes in its place,,15-20 minute job to remove rear bumper.

10 miles a time? Diesel is the wrong choice. Get a petrol instead. Or a PHEV if one is in your budget. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

at least you dont Need to get a rear panel with the cut out if the electrics socket is position right, the original panel can still be used and no one knows you have a towbar even fitted

And just to support what’s said above. At 10 miles a trip diesel is not for you. As you’ve said already with the dilution and filters ready to mess you about, why would you expose yourself to grief. You want to turn the key and go, enjoying the car. Avoid the diesel. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
