Not happy with this idea. Not because I go around the towns at 60mph but sometimes you need a burst of power to safely negotiate a situation. It sounds like the system will not instantly reduce your speed but how does it know exactly what you are trying to achieve? And external control of my car sounds very dangerous - what happens if there's a glitch in the system??

One small remote software update and BINGO, your next speeding ticket is on its way.

It can be overridden by the driver:
It's not external control. The car will read the speed limit signs and / or use GPS location and stored maps (as used by the in-car satnav) to determine what the speed limit is. I can see why such systems are being introduced and I can see that it is also the next step on the road to autonomous cars. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

More modern systems don't hold the maps on a hard drive somewhere, updated only by the main dealer. They use Google Maps and similar using mobile data plans. I would bet that this system will be linked to something similar. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Not on my MY21.5 RRS… map data held onboard, presumably in a hard drive or SSD, and updated by downloading a new version from the JLR site to a USB stick, which is then uploaded to the car.

Perhaps the stuff that LR sell when this system is mandated will be different to what they sell now. Although, being LR, their system will not work properly and cause all sort of issues. And they'll just say we were using it wrong. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Until they design it to default on and assume the worst case scenario and limit the car to 20mph. Don't laugh, I can see it happening. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

The modern equivalent has started. On the M1 past Sheffield yesterday, Saturday and not busy at all, the variable speed limit flashed up 60……and said “speed limit due to air quality”. I’ve never heard that one before, with this new system we won’t even need smart motorways, the6 could just do it 5h3mselves. Joined the X5 45e club
