Left hand front down pipe and catalyst (LR013739)

Hi forum members,

I have a problem with the left hand front exhaust down pipe that has a slight leak near the flexible section.
I know these cars are expensive to maintain, But £4,262.70 for the replacement part only is eye watering.
Has anyone ever had the flexible section cutout and a replacement section welded in.
Any input would be welcome.

No 3.0 2011 with Diesel particulate filter.
