Sounds like a turbo if the oil level has dropped significantly |

Same happened to mine, don’t try restarting it as you may end up hydro locking the engine with oil. Most likely turbo has gone and if you get it repaired then better off doing both anyway. |

There is a really simple way to confirm the turbo/turbos have failed, pull off one of the lower intercooler pipes, doesn't matter which one, but be prepared to catch a load of oil!!

PS> on the 2 occassions my turbos have failed I got no codes straight away, only once the intercooler had filled up with about 3 litres of oil did a warning code get set, probably because the oil effectively starves the engine of air |

When the turbos went on my TDV8 the only symptoms were a loss of power and a good deal of white, very smelly, smoke from the tail pipes. No dash lights came on at all. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thats it - loss of power - white smoke - and oil through the intercooler pipes.

Sorry to hear your pain, I still have the scars!! My v8 did the same 2 weeks before Xmas!! I put my foot down (I never thrash it) on the dual carriageway and as she was pulling there was a weird “ crack” and a small “ping” and total loss of power and it would turn over but not start. The oil does indeed settle in intercooler pipes and as you call on the turbos to do their thing it sucks in the oil and hydraulics the same as going through deep water. The v8 has so much torque it bends the conrods (2 on mine) and keeps turning where as the v6 normally snap the crank. Please check you haven’t bent rods before fitting new turbos and re fitting body. Incidentally, don’t know how they did it but NZ engines in Essex never lift body to remove engine from the v8 sport but always on the v6. If a hammer won't fix it.... It's electrical!! |
