Easy job if the vehicle is not a dynamic model, if it is then the ARC pump needs to be dropped off it's mounting to pass the belt around it. 20 mins for std vehicle, double that for dynamic. |

5 minute job. release the belt with a 3/8 ratchet extension/bar and then a 15mm bolt holds the tensioner in place. My belt has done 204K and is still fine so I'd imagine you just need to change the tensioner (mine went noisy about 10K ago). Are you sure it's the tensioner that's noisy and not the alternator? Maybe stick a bar against the alternator and tensioner and have a listen. |

Thought it might have been.... Not too bad a job, all from engine bay, remove belt and tensioner (gives you a bit more room), 3 bolts hold the alternator (2 towards the front and one at the rear, pull it forward and by touchy feel undo the main 12v battery feed cable and one clip in cable at the rear of the alternator. Obviously make sure you disconnect main battery in boot first, otherwise you'll have a firework show on your hands! Prob 60-90 mins first time doing one.

Maybe low battery if the aux belt is removed? I'd sort the alternator and then take another look. |
