I had a Nokia N70 up until last friday when the dog ate it...
I've always prefered Nokias but I really do not like the latest nokia phones. the menu system is quite clunky and their implementation of the bluetooth protocol doesnt work as good as other manufacturers.

I've just purchased a Sony Ericsson K800i which I should get delivered tomorrow. RRS TDV8 HSE - Hybrid TV - Sunroof - Adaptive Front Headlights - Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 system

I'm using a nokia N80 - it works 100% ok in my RRS and wife's TT - pairs automatically in each car without any probs. What would be better is a better interface from Landrover - preferably the one that is now fitted in the NEW Freelander - now that works so much better!

We can only dream Sad

Can you access the phones memory for numbers? Or are you just blue tooth connecting.

You can only get the phone book through the cradle, and there's not a cradle for any modern Nokias. I've moved to a 6280 (from a good old 6230 which worked perfectly in my cradle) and it doesn't work very well with the PTI at all... it pairs, but then disconnects itself at random intervals so I have to keep pressing the phone button to see if it's connected or not.

Mine works when it works... but it is a pi**er when it doesn't as you have to go through the whole re-pairing exercise, which is easier said than done when you're driving.

Gentlemen ............. this is the software of the car that is at fault = it's crap!

Blutooth on the Nokia N80 is very very good - it communicates with the car 100% ok and this doesn't matter if it's me or Mrs MDP with her N80 .....

But as shmoogle says...... all via bluetooth as Land Rover a bloody useless at phone support and communication technology upgrades Mad For heavens sake how long does it take to produce a simple connector...... we dont need cradles .... just a pggin connector will surfice Twisted Evil

BTW ..... Overall I rate the RRS PTI = crap ............... should we really have to buy old technology [ as in phones ] to fit their cradles = NO we shouldn't ........ COME ON LANDROVER ... pull your finger out Mad

What all of the car manufacturers need is to add remote Sim mode to the PTI's

It's not just LR though... no car manufacturers keep up with the constant changes in the mobile phone market and we can't really expect them to either. Whether it's cradles or connectors, the interfaces would still need to be designed and kept in line and I suppose this isn't where the focus of in-car technology is.

Can't be too difficult though Confused If the damn things can connect via bluetooth ok why not by a simple connector ????

The new Freelander will search for phones via bluetooth [ rather than the other way round in our RRS's ] - and it then has full access to everything on anyones phone - that's after you have accepted the connection of course Wink

So - If this is possible all possible via bluetooth - then - you should be able to produce/design an adapter/interface for older LR's ie. a unit that plugs into the cradle socket in the armrest - this new unit then takes your bluetooth signal and then upgrades it to freelander standards. = simple Very Happy
